Double Bass Which lightweight head?

The Eden WT405 is another option I'd recommend - I have the WT330 (same preamp, just a few less watts) and it works as well for EUB as slab. Or look for a used WT300/400/550 to get the more comprehensive EQ (although most Eden users report they don't need to use it).
They're all compact powerful amps that fit neatly into a shoulder bag.

I use a clarus head with various cabinets and it does great and it weighs almost nothing. you might try to find a 4 ohm cabinet to use with the clarus but i use 8 ohm cabs and it does fine. i bet you'd be okay with it especially since bass max is such a high output pickup. what about two small 4 or 8 ohm cabinets? one for you as a sort of monitor and one for everyone else?

I'm with you, I like to keep things simple and light.

+1 everything CB3000 said. I've found the Clarus has plenty of power, even into an 8 ohm speaker.

Don't overlook the weight of the total system, i.e., amp plus speaker. The GK MB150 combos are somewhere around 24 pounds. A lot of speakers are more than 24 pounds by themselves.

Of course if you are happy with the sound of a particular speaker, that's another matter entirely.

FYI... there's a new Clarus single channel on the Bass Northwest website under 'specials' for a little over $400 (due to them blowing out the series II in preparation for the series III). That's a GREAT deal if anyone is looking for a Clarus.

Maybe no one over here in the DB side is going to believe me...but the Thunderfunk is a really great DB amp. Very wide eq options, small, light, powerful...
I had been using an eden navigator for quite a while, but in a flight rack with a qsc amp, and korg str rack tuner, it was a hefty package.
If you buy direct from Dave Funk at Thunderfunk, you can try the little bugger for 7 days, and return it if you don't like it.
I have the "older" TFB420, which is 400 watts into 4 ohms. Running thru a schroeder 1210 (another awesome piece of gear probably most of you may scoff at for DB use, but it works very well for me at least), and it's a great combination.

or search the "other side" of this forum...

I also have a new eden wt800b that is very nice for DB, but I would not call this amp "lightweight" in the same way that the thunderfunk or a clarus is.

Another fine piece of gear to think about would be a walter woods product...

You will absolutely not go wrong finding an old ww m-100. They sell for under 7 or 8 hundred, used obviously. They still sound wonderful. I've had mine for more than ten years and it still kicks big butt. Any cabinet will do. I've toured all over the country with it. At home with an Epifani 10 or 12 for club gigs, it's simply amazing. You won't believe it's 100 watts, it's that good. And your back will love you too!

This is the AB bass amp. Since I have one I'll have to agree the preamp on a WW is very bass friendly. It boils down to
how long you are willing to wait to find one used. It's definitely
worth the wait, but you could be waiting quite a while to find a
used one. I like the preamps on the newer Walter Woods Electro
Acoustic amps, nothing wrong with older ones mind you, but
the newer ones are IMHO have better tone shaping.

Curiously enough, I have been seeing them lately on e-bay and even here in the for sale listings. The intermediate and high power models are getting jumped on for premium prices, but they little guy seems to be available for reasonable bucks. You can't go wrong.
