Not sure why you'd post something so negative in a simple, feelgood thread about a book/film that many people love. Isn't that....y'know...trolling?

If you're not a fan, fine. Go start a 'who doesn't like a Lord Of The Rings' thread

Insert appropriate smiley here.

Or a "LOTR didn't impress me: Which LOTR character AREN'T you?" thread

It's just an offhand comment in an off topic section of a forum for us bass players....I mean geez. I'd take reactions like this to mean perhaps there are some people who just might benefit from pulling themselves away from the giant screen, getting their minds bent back toward reality and away from fantasy, and perhaps getting some sunshine on their shoulders and dirt between their toes.....that's all.

Says the guy who says the moon landing was a plot to hide our doings from Decepticon forces whilst investigating a botched Autobot attempt at human contact.

Oh, I wasn't impressed with LOTR, in fact, I refused to watch it other than small snippets. I was just attracted to Gollum
s croaking voice.....like a stoner who had just smoked a bowl without a screen.:D I had read it like 2.5 decades before, before it was cool "trending". I haven't watched a single minute of Harry Potter either - my step-son(28) despises me for not watching "because it is just a media spectacle and I don't need to be feed the same SH** as everyone else".

This thread makes me kind of sad - anyone here into old-school science fiction like the Hugo winners from the 70-90's? Harlen Elison, "I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream". Now THAT is the shnizzle!

Don't know, I fell asleep during it.

They should make people watch that stuff instead of giving them Ambien.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the greatest cinematic achievements in the history of mankind. It is entertaining, for the popcorn masses; educational, for those who want to learn made-up modern mythological history; educational again, for those who want to learn about life through the use of metaphors; educational again for those who want to understand the structure of mythology; and even more educational for those who are willing to read the books, and learn about construction of a written universe that does not actually exist.

Its biggest achievement is that it is fantasy/sci-fi that many women like as much as men, and cool people like, as well as the obvious audience of dorks.

It stays in your blood forever.

And you SLEPT THROUGH SOME OF IT???

WATCH IT AGAIN.

I command thee to watch it again, or by the fires of a thousand suns, an army of angry Balrogs will tear thee limb from limb, whilst decorating the tree of Galador with your internal organs, which will be feasted upon by itinerant Klemgarmons.

Not that big a deal, I slept through Avatar too, even with all the 3D stuff. I get more amusement from watching my cats scratch a hole, poop in it, and cover it up again. At least it's something real instead of "mystique fantasy", and doesn't require me to stare at a screen for 2-1/2 hours. ;)

Eh, im a Tokien fan. I didn't like the movies. I was forced to go see them by an ex (was actually emotionally blackmailed over it....) who when she tried to read the books said it wasn't as entertaining as the movies (obviously shes an idiot...ok well....i might be biased based on other things about her).

I refuse to see The Hobbit. I don't like what Jackson did with LOTR so i dont trust him with The Hobbit, and from what I know, i'm right not to.

(And you already think i don't like anything...)

I am aware i'm like in the 0.5% LOTR fans who didn't like the films though.

watch the extended editions of the movies. way closer to the books.

it's gotta be rough trying to make an entertaining movie from a beloved book when if you get one detail wrong you're going to be crucified. labor of love.
