What's wrong with the DI in the LMIII?
My band's second album was recorded with the bass into an LMIII and DI to desk, it sounded great.

edit: I read the blurb about the 'upgrade', but what does it mean in practice?

yeah i understand the diff between a 500 and 1000 watt is only about 3db, i wanted the 1000watts for head room and not to be running the lm3 at vol 7/8 all the time.

Thats why i emailed alex from barefaced to get a recommendation. explained my current setup, the band, how we play live etc and the super twin is supposedly louder than my old 4x10 ampeg hlf and should cover all my needs. lol given the corona virus put an end to all that i havent had the chance to gig with it, but to my hears its hella a loud.

i am also running a HPF now which has a huge difference :D

Aguilar are US and Im in Europe so anything goes wrong i need to ship it and wait weeks, plus from what ive seen and heard Im not terribly impressed with their heads to be honest. I know people love them but for that money im not impressed. Their pickups on the other hand are lovely. If i had that kind of money to spend id probably get a darkglass... so much versatility in those amps.

Good call on the HPF, I remember my LMIII ran colder when I used an external HPF set pretty low (the LMIII has a built-in fixed HPF but it's clearly set even lower), and it felt like I could get a little louder (not much but detectable with my unscientific ears ;) )

Yeah, like you I also prefer to have more than I need and not have to push too hard. Definitely choose the 1000W over an 800W.

Can't wait to get to practice (let alone gigging!)... I got a tiny weeny TCE BAM200 amp (200W) as a backup amp that I can carry with me in my gigbag and I'm very curious how it behaves in 'real life' through a couple of Two10 cabs. At home it sounds ridiculously loud for such a tiny thing, but I bet once the full band is assembled I will find it's not quite as loud as I thought at home. But I digress :)

also, I forgot... please report back, I'm very curious about the Ninja too and how it compares to the LMIII.

I use a Mesa D800+ most of the time, with the LMIII set at home for practice. As nice as the D800+ is, there's something about the LMIII that means I'll never let it go. If the Ninja has enough of the character of the LMIII I can see myself getting one at some point, but I have not yet tried it. Let us know what you think, please :)

To me, the Ninja sounds like a Little Mark with a stupid amount of power. Really cool and really GREEN head.

That's for sure. Good thing most of their stuff sounds really good. My Jeff Berlin combo is really well built and sounds great with a LMT800 pushing it.

Maybe it's the Irish Scottish thing, but we seem to be cut from the same cloth lol if I had the money I would have gotten a D800+... Man those things sound unreal. And sure cliff Burton being the reason I got into bass, mesa was always the holy grail for me as a kid. Still is to be honest...

I ended up getting the 1000 marcus limited edition (red and gold) lol so if that doesn't work out I'll sell it and get the ninja and report back on that as well :P

Hopefully have it in a few days from thomann!

Good question. My guess is that it upgrades whatever DI unit is in there from the factory with whatever is inside their Super DI pedal. Since I own one of those pedals (they are available cheap used) I don’t really need the upgrade personally. But it is nice to have an internal one so you don’t necessarily have to carry a separate pedal.

That's neat, I know they tweaked it for him. I watched his thormann interview and he said they renamed them so I assumed they're still performing the same function. Do you have any links that get deeper into the tech specs and differences?
