I am looking to buy a multi and hopefully end the constant (and expensive) acquisition of single stompboxes. I may be naive to think that I could ever be satisfied with a multi - thats why I want to make sure I get the best quality board I can...

With that in mind, I am looking mainly at the Line 6 Bass Pod Xt Live or Boss GT-6B. Feel free to suggest any other that are within a similar price range ($300 - $400 US). I am not interested in the ME-50B (already tried that).

Keep in mind that I am looking for the multi that has the greater range/amount of effects, and the best quality. I'm not so much interested in the modelling aspects.

That's a nice board but the best multis can do much more than 6 effects at half the weight.

I'm sure that the expanse of my old pedal "board" is no secret here, but like xan, I woke up one day looking for a more efficient way to have effects.
I picked the GT6B over the Line6 XTBL because of the effects set although I gather that ppl are now using the XTBL in the studio because it really can do a darn fine job with the amp/cab modeling. The XTBL also has the bonus of a PC software front end that makes editing patches easier. I say try both.

Sycip - I remember your previous effects spread, and for you, a multi makes a lot of sense if you can get all the sounds you need. I agree that the higher-end multis are probably pretty darn good for effect quality. For me, 3-4 effects is all I need, and I like the option to find EXACTLY the right effect pedal for my sound (self-professed gear-geek tendancies at work).

It would be nice if I could get my pedalboard looking like that, but unfortunately I have never been able to get it to that standard! Something always seems to go wrong with the pedalboard when I use it at prac - loose jacks, power supply issues etc.

I am not saying I am giving up completely on the stompboxes - I have some that I really like and will keep. It would just be nice to have a multi that I can pick up and go. I know that the digital effects never seem to stack up against the analog gear, but the trade off is that you get many more effects in a neater package.

At this point I am probably leaning towards the XT Live, but if it doesnt work out I shouldnt have a problem reselling it here in Australia.

you'll never get a multi that will compate with GOOD stomp box effects. if you absolutely MUST get a multi, figure out which sounds are most important to you, then get the processor that does those sounds best (and is tweakable in a manner that isn't rocket science).

i got a pod as a throw in on a deal a while back and it is a fun toy that sounds pretty good and is fairly flexible. i only use it as a practice tool for the headphones.
