Which neck, and why?

Which neck

My tech and I are building a Jazz-style bass. I'm using 1960 stacked and improved controls, a Hipshot Kickass bridge and Klein '62 pups.

Which of these 2 necks do you prefer, and why?View attachment 2974496 View attachment 2974497
I'd use the one I have which is maple with dots and white binding on the neck. Bars are all right I suppose, just a bit of overkill for me. I don't care for the Bubinga/Rosewood neck at all, especially with the dark headstock...just not to my taste.

The maple with black dots looks killer. As long as it sets up well and sounds good...that would be my vote.

Side note...I do a lot of neck swaps on Basses and find that different necks have a dramatic effect on tone.

Block'd, bound and mapl'd...

I didn't even need to look at the pictures to know my vote.

EDIT: Why? It is IMHO, the black tie formal wear of bass necks, nothing looks quite as sharp to my eye.

Functionally, I pick out the side marker better on a bound neck, even when only half of the side marker is on the binding.
