Good points all. As long as my teammates are supportive. I'm going to bring enough gear to be reasonably well heard, whatever the sound guy says. I'm not all that committed to this church, so I don't want to kick up a fuss, but I don't see any point in going along with this silly power play either.

This thread makes me so thankful for the sound guys at our church being pretty passionate about what they do and the two massive 2x15 subs we have flanking the stage.

I'd be pretty frustrated in your position too, and would hate to be completely squelched like that, but do try to remember the purpose of the music is more for the congregation to have something to sing to.

I play in churches also, so I am familiar with these kinds of situations. You absolutely need a way to hear yourself with some degree of clarity whether via a backline, monitors, or IEMs. If you have to, bring enough gear to insure that. And based on my experience it will save you a lot of angst and allow you to concentrate on your own worship during the service if, as far as FOH that you let the sound guy and the worship leader deal with it, it is their job to present the worship music as a whole.

And if you are still unsatisfied with FOH mix, if the worship leader and sound guy won't budge, only you can determine if you want to stay in that situation or find another one, churches are always looking for musicians.

I just dealt with this exact issue this morning. My Aguilar DB659 sounded great in one auditorium a week ago but today in the main auditorium I couldn't seem to get any sound at all in my IEMs, my signal cut out for a full half of rehearsal and I was barely loud to hear myself enough in my mix during three services. Some days are just a swing-and-a-miss.

We once had a "sound man" crawling around on the stage adjusting amp volumes as the service was happening. I had to go thru half of "thou shall nots" before I decided that my desired course of action was probably not OK with God.
