I'm thinking of buying my first new bass. I've always wanted one of these. I like all three colors they come in, so I can't choose.

I always associated the cherry tint with vintage EB-3s, probably because all the ones that belonged to friends of mine "back in the day" were cherry. But you *have* played one of these, I hope? The short scale and Gibson pickups make them quirky and not to everyone's taste.

the pickups aren't the same as the old ones. they just have the same cover.

Nice bass, but as others have pointed out, SG basses have their quirks...the most prominent being the tone IMO. Given a modern amp, you should be able tweak the sound to suit your taste, but a Fender clone they are not...

...I own one in worn brown, looks great. My son has an SG guitar in cherry. Both suit the style very well. After that it's personal preference.

I went to GC to noodle with it some more before I ordered online but the one I played was perfect. Normally I avoid buying anything new from GC, but this one was in pristine shape with great intonation and action. (It must not have been in the store for very long), so now it's mine. It's super light, I love the neck and the feel and it sounds very good, but it's probably the least versatile sounding bass I've ever played. There's really not a whole lot of tonal variation. But that's fine by me. I assume flats generally go on these right? It came with what seem to be nickel rounds.

Sweet! I voted worn brown and you got it. You might eventually consider replacing the neck pup with a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Here's a Youtube video demonstration.
