Which short scale bass?

Hello!

I'm new to this forum, and pretty new to bass playing!

I'd like some advice on buying a short scale bass. A good one for rock music.

I've got a Daisy Rock Heartbreaker Bass which sounds brilliant, but the neck dive is terrible. I've been looking at the Epiphone EB-0 on the internet, but I predict that it may have the same problem. Is that correct?

I'm not sure about Fender Mustangs, they have to balance better?

I was amazed on how good they sound as well.

Try out a fender mustang or even a bronco bass, some broncos are great and some are terrible, it's just the luck of the draw. There are also a lot of women out there using the epiphone "devil bass" copy. Welcome to Talkbass!

go with the fender mustang or i believe the sg reissue is also short scale without a neck dive.

fender mustang or the bronco bass are the best

My cousin has a shortscale SX P bass. I was impressed by the quality and value for the money and it had no neck dive issues that I noticed.

The Fender Urge Standard is a medium scale (32") and has zero neck dive. The Rob Allen Mouse 30 is probably the most comfortable shorty out there, but expensive.

The SX is a nice looking bass and it doesn't suffer from neck dive. It just sounds like crap. Go with the Fender.

The EB-3 is long scale, 34" and EB-0 is short, I think!


A friend of mine has just phone to say he's seen a short scale Cort bass. Anyone got any experience/views on those??

Vintage mustangs and musicmasters are good too, I haven't tried the reissues. You could try Alembic if you have money to burn or find a reissue Danelectro longhorn if you want inexpensive. Danelectro is also coming out with a new short scale: Invalid Link Removed

Ampeg is back to making the Dan Armostrong plexis wich are shortscale and amazing. I have a solid body one (wich was cheaper, but basically the same bass minus the pup) and the neck dive is next to none.

Also, getting a good, huge suede strap will alleviate with the neckdive. Cheaper than buying a new bass.

Much better quality and sound than most people expect, with excellent sustain. Luthite solid body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, 2 Mighty Mite humbuckers, very solid bridge. It is quite heavy for its size. Currently strung with GHS roundwounds. I'm not sure if it's a '97 or '98.
Good tone variations with the dual 'buckers.
Fairly heavy, though.

for the "Under 600 or 700" range, I'd go Mustang. Actually, I'd go Jay Turser violin bass, but that's because I have my two Birdsongs already for solid-body stuff. The Epi viola basses seem to get better reviews than the Epi EB-Os do.

For over a thousand, Birdsongs are my favorites. I've heard great things about James Basses for roughly the same price range as Birdsongs or a little higher. Likewise, I've heard that Landing is great if you want a more traditional look (basically a really nice short scale bass made from a Strat body) and again, the same price range (1400 or higher). I've read great things about the SSBs, but less than on the other ones.
