I asked my parents for a new pedal for this Christmas/birthday but I don't know which one to pick. I'm in the <$120 range because I asked for a new iPod to replace my current one. I've narrowed choices down to three distortion/OD/fuzz pedals:

MXR El Grande Bass Fuzz

EHX Bass Big Muff

MXR Blowtorch (use Blogger option to vote for this)

Have you tried any or all of them? I rarely make strong comments on pedals but I thought the El Grande was a big disappointment and the Bass Blogger was one of the worst bass dirt pedals I've ever tried.

The Big Muff is a classic tone and sounds great on bass but it will get you lost in the mix. There are countless clones with a reshaped EQ or mid control that would work far better.

Out of the ones you mentioned, I'd take Bass Big Muff. But rather than that, I'd take Swollen Pickle which has a fat rich HUGE sound. A great muff derivate. I also dig Blowtorch a lot, but it's a different beast with a more focused, a bit synth gated fuzz sound, and a 3 mid shift + blend knob. I loved the Swollen Pickle, but it was a bit too huge of a sound for my band, so it got replaced by Blowtorch.
If you got money for botique pedals, there's ton of em to check. A good recommendation would be Pickle Pie B. And of course, as already mentioned, Fuzzrocious :)

I haven't heard a lot about the Blogger but I have played the Big Muff and the El Grande.

Anyways, since you already have it, I'd suggest something different from muff sound. Tech 21 Red Ripper is very interesting and has a cool blend of dirt and synth, really sweet sounds in there.
And again, Blowtorch won't put a big hole in your (parents') pocket.
