Which Should I get?

Not sure how much the one is that you found, but I recall awhile back seeing a used Pedulla Pentabuzz at Music Go Round for $1799. Hmm... Found the link. It's still there.

Get the Ric. I bought a fretless once to check it out and see if I gravitated towards it but it was basically a novelty and I got rid of it. Buy the bass you intend to play.....a lot.
i feel ya....my kids are approaching middle age --- so it's behind me.
if you're going to really study (and have fun with!) a fretless..........just sayin'. have fun making this decision, friend!

In all seriousness, you’ll find Rics all the time. Pedulla’s in great shape are rare these days. And yeah if you look at the price new (which I bought earlier this year), it’s oretty tough to say no to one priced less than half. A Ric will always sound like a Ric regardless of what you do. The Penta has an extremely wide range in the tonal pallet.

I could think of twenty different things to say about that one, half of which would directly contradict the other half. And all of them would be equally true.

Get the fretless. But then I only play fretless so I’m biased 
1) Buy the Pedulla.
2) Flip it for a big profit here at TB.
3) Buy the Ric.
4) Buy me something pretty with part of the profit (cuz it was my idea) and keep the rest for yourself.

There is no bad choice, and that is a great thing!
The one I am getting is $995+tax.
- You say you can get that Ric sound (or close to it) already.....
- You obviously have a fretted bass (or more than one) already.....
- The Pedulla most likely will not lose value so if you find you really, really don't take to fretless you can flip it and get the Ric later on.....
I'm still not confident enough on my fretless to gig with it, but hope to be sooner or later. I barely play my fretted basses at home now.

That's a really easy decision!
I want to make the Pentabuzz my main bass. At this point, Slap is for fun. At church, I slap less than
five percent of the time. My goal is to be like Michael Henderson on his solo records or Brad Johnson, I want to be good enough on fretless that I can sound like fretless when I want to, and fretted otherwise. If I achieve that, I could let go of some other basses for a Rickenbacker, if I still feel the urge.
