I'm still not confident enough on my fretless to gig with it, but hope to be sooner or later. I barely play my fretted basses at home now.

Edit: Just saw the price for the Pedulla..... $995 :wideyed: That's a really easy decision!

It is an easy decision since I have hashed it out with you guys. The Pedulla is in great shape and nearly $500 cheaper than the 4003s ( that is the only Ric I want.) If I absolutely hate the Pedulla, I could sell it for $1,500, and still give someone a great deal.

OK Doc. Ya gotta know by now I am of the irrational mindset that looks perfectly rational from my 'universe' if you will. My training is in art and design and also my biased opinions on such things.
Design: I have to tell you, those horns on the Pedulla are NOT MANLY at all. They look like they are melting and might drip off at any moment like some Salvador Dali nightmare, the Ric has solid horns that aren't going to be broken off by an accidental bump into the screen door.
Sound: The Ric has a sound that says, "I do not have sissy melting weak horns, I have AUTHORITY baby."
Look: The look on your face while slappin' that Ric was priceless.
OK, I've chimed in on it.

Picking one? Pedulla. But actual advice?

If buying the bass causes such financial distress, then you shouldn’t buy either. You mention having a Lakland already - even the Skylines are so nice it would never hold you back, so there’s no need to buy either bass.

You put the Pedulla on layaway? How does that work? You give them money, they hold it, and when you failed to pay the balance, they keep the bass and your money??

I suggest ONLY buying a spare bass with funds you actually have in hand, and might not need for other upcoming expenses.

First bass? Then you might justify spending the money and cutting back on groceries or cutting premium cable channels or not going out for dinners. Additional basses come from *disposable income*. If you don’t have it, you don’t get the bass. If all the extra cash you have to spare is $100, then you shop for something fun in the $100 range. I spent many years in the $100 price range, buying Squiers, GTX, Hondo, and other entry level stuff. And then I sold them for what I paid, so no money lost. Point being, I didn’t have $1k to play with, so I didn’t.

But if you can afford the $1k bass without your family sacrificing, then get the Pedulla.

I could save the money, but I usually buy my Basses on layaway through merchants who know me. I know my limits, I don’t pick basses I can’t get out.

I do see where you are coming from, and I appreciate what you are saying.

It’s practical in the sense that in my experience, lots of people get a fretless, and give up quickly. I intend to make the Pedulla my main bass. I will take my lessons on it. I will give it a year, but I suspect that I will see a big improvement in intonation in maybe two months if I only play the Pedulla.
