I think a more interesting question to poise, since it's official the MA reps here the hardest, is which country outside the US has the most TB'ers.
(I honestly always wondered that, since I always thought it so cool that so many members are from other countries.)

I just went over to the Members List section, and in the Advanced Search column I entered only the country or state. Here's what came up:
Canada - 1675
United Kingdom - 123
England - 875
California - 781
Texas - 828
Florida - 619
New York - 708
United States - 71
US - 4908
USA - 1754
Now this is only what members put in as their residences, hence the US and USA, or United Kingdom and England. It's probably as accurate as we're going to get, since some members will put down something else, such as for example CA instead of California, or TX instead of Texas.

California has the highest population in the US. It would probably be safe to assume that unless percentages skew HEAVILY there will be the highest number of bassists here and the highest number of talkbass members.
My guess as to why "California" got lower numbers than other areas is because the state is so large and contains multiple metropolitan areas that users identify with rather than the state as a whole.

You could do a 20-choice poll and hit all the most likely states.
Certainly CA, NY, IL, TX, OR, MN, FL, and 12 others plus "Other." Maybe go by population.
You could leave out states like WY, ND, SD, UT, ID and ones like that.
