which studio bass preamp?

hi guys...

i'd like to buy a bass studio preamp (something like the swr marcus miller or the mark bass studio pre...) for my recording and also for my gigs with no-amp (in small places i plug my jazz bass directly into the mixing console...).

which do you use?
are there preamps with a warm-vintage tone (valves....)?

do you think a sadowsky preamp could be good? even as D.I. in studio...

Also check for "channel strip" type preamp , that are for line and mic.
There are plenty of choice , from uber flat/expensive to very colored/tube.

got no idea about the art, but don't rule out stuff because it's not as expensive. i have heard some killer sounds out of cheap stuff that i would put up against any expensive stuff out there.

I suppose. But I just got rid of 12lbs. of Behringer rack junk (the older, better made stuff that cost 3x what it does now), and neither has my Peavey, Carvin, Boss, DBX, Rane or Alesis stuff quite worked-out. So that leaves only a few brands in that gen. price-range like Art, Presonus...

For the sound wise, there is no right answer, all of the models mentioned above are pretty good.. so your personal taste will only determine your favorite.

if you need a preamp for recording & live performance, I think the Eden Navigator preamp is the best since it has almost everything you need to have in one rack. Not only that, but you can easily get a good deal if you buy used one.

@ boriology101: thanks! i tried one year ago some eden heads but i didn't liked them too much... i found them too "rubber" (i don't know how to explain it in english :-), i'm italian... ) so i bought a gk 1001....
but i will look for that preamp...i hope i find one near my town
