Another important thing to understand is, when you are playing with other musicians, you need to be in tune with them, and when you play along with a recording, you need to be in tune with the recording. If your tuner says you are in tune, but you aren't in tune with the other musicians, then you aren't in tune, you are out of tune.
But when it's just you, practicing by yourself, A440 is a good standard to follow.

I vote for 440 and Chrysler used to have a 440 4 barrel horsepower also.

I used to do that. And looking back I think I limited myself. Fyi, I've been playing for 30+ years. I have a music degree too. One thing that I have learned about musicianship in my studies and overall musical journey that is so important: EAR TRAINING. It gets left out of the picture so much. If you don't practice with any amp, how are you actually really HEARING what you play. I realize you can kind of hear the strings a little bit when you play w/o an amp. However, it's very different than plugging in to any type of amp where you really hear the full scope of your bass's tone. At the very least get one of those headphone amps for practice. Anyway, that's my thought. As for tuning, go with 440 Hz, unless you're playing baroque or some other period music where you might need to use another pitch frequency (which you wouldn't be using an electric bass for). If you're playing in a rock band or something related, everyone else will be tuned to 440. If you play Drop C tuning a lot, practice that. I think you should also practice standard tuning. You never know what gig opportunities are ahead of you later in life (I don't know how old you are). I used to play a lot of drop D back in the 1990s. So I practiced that way. I also practiced standard tuning, because a lot of the songs I played also required that tuning. Anyway, ya... plug in your bass so you aren't just working on muscle coordination, but developing pitch, interval and chord recognition.Yea, but perhaps some are better for practising than others. 440 is standard. Practice with whatever tuning you use when you play. Don't overthink it.
I would recommend practicing with an amp. As you train, so shall fight play. It will keep you from developing habits that don't correlate well when amplified.
Years ago, before tuners, we discovered that a telephones dial tone was damn close to an "A". Thats what we would use.
