Which would you pick, and why?

Battle of the 200+/- Watters!!! Which one would you pick? They are both priced closely and I'm new to tube amps, but don't have the cash to crap out for $1,700 - $2,400 for the big boys.

+1 to what Jim C said. You should also consider a used Mesa Buster.

I haven't tried the Peavey, but the Traynor was way underpowered in my experience. Granted I play in a WAY to loud band (haha well at least by most of TB's standards) so that has something to do with it. But I had to push mine pretty hard to get it to be giggable in my "normal" gig as well. Just my .02

P.S. I heard those Mesa Boogie Buster heads are killer.

+1 to the Walkabout. It's not 100% tube but as close as it gets and used only seem to be around $500-$550. It's 2 ohm stable which allows many cab combinations.

This.... You should be able to find a used SVT classic for around $900.00 used. If it isn't Your thing, You can easily sell it for what You paid for it.

I'm not really an all-tube lover, but if I ever were to invest in one, it would probably be the Traynor YBA-300. If I had extreme amounts of cash I might look into the Peavey VB3+ or the Eden tube head. These are all 300 watt heads. I like Ampegs... when someone else plays them. For my personal tastes they lack clarity in a big way.

I'm not a fan of the "Ampeg" tone. That is why it wasn't an option on the pole.

+1 on the Mesa D-180. I have no need for another amp. It is amazing through any cab for bass and is an equally amazing guitar amp. I got mine from Guitar Center in SC. They though it was broken but they did not know how the tone circuit works. Once you master the tone circuit you can do any tone from jazz to metal for bass or guitar.

I picked up a Peavey AlphaBass (poor mans Mesa) for 235$ - Its Tube-Lishious!!!
But if you cant find a D-180 Or Alphabass, Used SVT all the way!!! You can normally find a decent one for 800-1000

I'm still getting to grips with the tone controls on mine, certainly a bagful of tones in there.

Another amp I'd like to try is the Traynor 300. They are found in classifieds for a grand.

a brand spanking new Fender Bassman Pro 100T can be had for $1,449. For a little more you can nab the 300w version. I would either go this route or used SVT. Traynor YBA200 isn't a bad amp at all, but for a bit more you can get much better amps.

Svt CL ,Fender Bassman 300 and even a Little Mark Tube 800 which is so lite you can almost put it in your pocket.....................................
