94 Fortress, gloss body, wenge neck. black or dark blue in color, pickups have white lettering so I'm guessing passive only (correction, EMG PUPS, not original). above average condition. $500.

Bass B

96 Proline. Natural. wenge neck. pickups and possible preamp have been replaced. average condition at best. $630

I've gone through several warwicks. An active Corvette (wenge), a Streamer Pro M (wenge), a Streamer Jazzman (ovankle), and a Fortress (I think they were all wenge). The Fortress is my keeper and I don't miss any of the others a bit. The weight and balance feel perfect, it has the best growl of all of them, and surprisingly it seems the most versatile. Not sure what was up with the jazzman, but for all the control you should have with that thing it seemed very much like a 1 trick pony.

I personally would never again buy another warwick past the '99 mark. They seem like totally different basses to me. Both of the ones yer looking at are pre 2000, yay for you. I'd actually buy em both and sell whichever one I liked less. You've got 2 great prices there and could probably even make yourself a few bucks. I'm certain you could resell them for at least what you're going to pay. hmm... ya know what, not certain about the proline. but the fortress, without a doubt.

And the fortress is active.

I was thinking the fortress too. Apparently I just can't get away from them as this will be my 3rd one and 5th W. I love the Proline but also love things in original condition. Florin at the W forum said the black hardware isn't original, it was gold. The pups aren't original, and the body is scratched up good. I wonder if its even worth the $630 they are asking. Too bad the black hardware didn't come on prolines, I like the look of it.

I'm the same way with liking the original stuff. I given the additional details I would absolutely go for the fortress.

Well it turns out the Fortress has EMGs. Dang it. He's not moving on the price but I got the price down to $550 on the proline. So I'm thinking keep it as it is, buy some used gold W hardware and MEC pups so I can turn it back into original if I ever want to.

yeah, it really came down to 3 things for me. #1. the fortress body isn't my favorite. to me it looks like it was designed by Dr Suess. 2. What I don't like about this particular pickup setup is that the screws for the P were placed at the top, leaving very little space for your thumb. I've dealth with it when I had the other 2, but didn't like it. This put the 2 basses virtually in a tie. So the last factor came down to the salesperson. The one where I got the proline always came back with answers in a reasonable time and shot over 10 pictures to me so I could show Florin at the W forum. The first time I asked for pictures I forgot to have him snap the control cavity so he had to go get the bass again, snap that picture, and send it to me after he had already done a bunch of other pictures. Both times I had pics within 30 min. When I called on the other one, I asked what kind of pups where in it and his response was that he didn't know and that he didn't take it in. uh, can you go look? I guess. I know GC people take a lot of crap and I've seen some of their stupidity too, but the first GC guy won a sale because he gave me good service. I didn't expect him to know the answers, he probably was a guitar player who doesn't know basses, but when I asked for something he gave it to me so I could get the answers myself.
