Who Are Some Highly Technical Pick Players?

What about Andy West? I saw him with the Dregs in '78 and '81......bad ass. I was 18. He HURT me. I didnt know whether to go home and start practicing 24/7 or just cut my hands off and be done with it.

I think Dave Larue replaced him mid '80's..............but Andy West was the guy with the pick in the early days. He also played an Alembic.
Ill say it again: that guy was bad ass.

I've seen and heard the man play live, and I've never seen anyone shred a bass like that. Luckily, the band knows what they have, and they don't cut him out of the mix.

Completely agree. I'd never have said that from hearing Tool as it is quite intricately written and has some odd rhythms and feels, but try and play some of his work. It's still impressive, but not as blow-me-away-impressive as I'd expected. Surprised me somewhat.

There is a "Bass Player" issue with Flea on the cover and I'm pretty sure he is holding a pick. It's an old issue, but I can't look it up because I gave it to a friend who is a RHCP fan. However, in the article in the issue he does discuss some of the songs he used a pick on. I really don't think it was many songs, though.

Dave Ellefson, Bobby Vega, John Entwhistle, Justin Chancellor, Chris Squire come to mind first. I'm sure those names have been mentioned a lot already, which goes to show that the terms "pick" and "technical" are not mutually exclusive!
