Who are you?

New to forum,
I’m a window tinter, 56 years old, married 32 years with one kid (just turned 30), he’s also my business partner. We own SunSolar window tinting in Gainesville, FL.
I started building about 15 years ago, lost count of how many, lots of getting disgusted and going “Nexxxxtt…..” (I actually spent last year purposely going back and finishing guitars I quit on. lol)
I “inherited” (ie horked) my grandfather’s old jacked up Suzuki 12 string and tried to fix it with no idea what I was doing. Luckily got it back together, still not playing, lol, but after that, I was hooked. I wanted to learn how to build guitars.
Started playing bass in a band using a fender squire 30” jaguar, but I wanted an ebony fretboard but then decided why not all ebony?
Which is why I came here. My first bass build.

Forgot if I posted here.

Dentist. Wannabee luthier hack. Tried building a classical guitar in college, and failed. Built a 000 stewmac kit in dental school. Built a handful of acoustic things (ukulele, classical guitar) that were pretty awful. Promised a fancy dentist in NJ to build him a bass in 2013 during implant training. Gave up on building.

Bought a practice. Got married. Have 2 kids (toddler and newborn). Midlife crisis--realized that I just want to build instruments, even if it's impractical.
Wanted to fulfill that promise to Dr. Nosti from 2013.

Fell in love with the bass, but realize that my stumpy proportions need a custom build to be truly comfy.

My name is Matt I’ve been building everything and anything since I was a kid and that has landed me with a business specializing in vintage cars.. I live in Minneapolis with my wife and three kids!
I’ve been a bassist for longer than I care to admit but I love all things about it I also play guitar but I’m a bassist at heart..
I started modding stuff when I stopped playing with bands and just playing in the studio.. once I started modifying things I knew I could only get it exactly how I wanted if I built it..
building instruments is a huge creative outlet for me and I love doing it from scratch building to restoration projects..

Hi, I used to post my builds years ago. I'm starting fresh. I went by J. Worrell Bass before, now I'm John Worrell. I'm married, no kids, 61, My main business is deck construction. I quit building in 2019, but recently I decided to give it another try, since I do really enjoy it. I hope to see some old friends and make some ones too.

Welcome back John! I think your old account is still active under 'jworrellbass' as I still see old posts now and then.

IMHO, the biggest news since you left is that @Alex Xander became an excellent builder after being screwed over twice on custom builds by LC "builders" (frauds) who disappeared after taking his money and materials.

Was he the guy that wanted the sub bass?
Thanks for the welcome back.

Unless I'm quite mistaken, yes and was taken first by "mikeyswood" and then later by "musiclogic", both of whom permanently disappeared from here and pretty much everywhere else... at least under those usernames. Remember the "league of extraordinary luthiers"? :)
I though so. I remember making a neck pickup for that build. I'm glad he learned how to build for himself.

Totally unaware of all this! :) Welcome back anyway!

That was me indeed - many a sub bass built since. I very much remember you building a pickup for the group build that were among many parts taken by Harold Cagle. It was a very generous gesture, so I’m pleased to see you active again.
Thanks @Beej - you’re making me blush. You’re not too bad yourself!
