I like both pickups full, and I don't touch the volume knobs at all, so it doesn't matter to me.

My Mustang was modified to remove the switch and have stacked Volume/Tone for each pickup.

I used to feel this way but recently I’m pretty much all neck-middle-all bridge, so I’m cool with a pickup toggle. I almost never touch knobs during a gig except to adjust the tone knob if my amp sounds too dark or bright where it's set. In a live mix, the difference between various nuanced in-between positions is negligible, if not completely inaudible. In a recording situation I might be a little fussier and try to dial in something on the bass to get a little closer to a tone goal, but in that situation you might have a reasonable chance of actually hearing the difference. Neck or middle or bridge is going to be useful on a stage, and isn't at all fussy - for live music where the soundman may or may not be phoning it in, if there is one at all, the blunt instrument is called for - no one will be able to tell the difference between your carefully crafted blend positions. To them, it will sound like a bass.

Why have I never thought about doing this? Seems so freakin obvious.

My nordy P/J has a switch, master volume and tone knob. It works fine as is. I use it in P solo mode 99% of the time so no issues with lack of blending options here. If I had it I might try it, but I don't miss it and it would probably be more distraction than anything else.

I do NOT like toggle switches, and on my Mustang, I replaced the single toggle switch with two on/off rocker switches:

It seemed to be the easiest solution, though not very versatile, appealing most to someone who's always running 100%, and I think a blend pot would have been a better solution, but that would have required major rework of pick guard and/or control plate.

That looks like an elegant solution. And harder to accidentally flip when playing energetically.
