For traditional rock, r&b ... Conrad Lozano (Los lobos) has a great sound from his Glaub and SVT and of course his fingers ...

I know they ain't metal but Chris Squre's tone on Roundabout and the rest of Fragile left a mark. Got no use for that tone today but hey mama, that was some hot stuff back in the day...

Other guy who has amazing tone is Victor Krauss under Peter Rowland 'Reggaebilly' live? I think that is his Triumph EUB. Then again his playing is so right, it's hard to separate out just tone... Got that problem with all 3 of those guys really...

Coming up my favorite tones were Anthony Jackson on the Chaka Khan CDs, Mark Adams with Slave, Bernard Edwards with any Chic project, Louis Johnson, Marcus Miller, Jaco, Jeff Berlin, the guy with LTD (who recently passed on,) John Wetton, Chris Squire, and Geddy Lee. I also loved Norman Durham with Kleeer, who a master of funk with a pick. Finally, I absolutely loved Larry Graham!

Jaco on Heavy Weather. Geddy on most everything, but especially Permanent Waves and that era. His Wal was killer too.

Mark Egan on his latest solo cd. Love it. Les Claypool when he dirties it up a bit.

The respective bassists from Ohm ( Pags) Jazz Pistols and Garaj Mahal.

Squier on Fragile. I could keep going I guess, but I won't :)
