Who else makes Les Paul style basses ?

Cool thread. I was going through this same thought process a few months back and then found a Gibson LP body on ebay. Started a thread http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=620057 and got some great tips on a neck (still can't believe that one!), pups etc.

I have most of the parts collected up now so hopefully will soon be complete. The neck will be maple stained to match the mahogany body, with an ebony fretboard and headstock veneer. No inlays at first, although I agree that it adds a lot to the LP look. I also think the switch is a lot of the look too, and seeing how it is also useful, I may take the opportunity to create a switch cavity and route a wire to the control cavity by drilling through the neck cavity.

hawkbone. your thread is where my EXTREME gas came from. if i had the cash that is the color LP bass i would have..that or honeyburst. i love it and realllllllly want a gibson. im low on dough though so im budgeted to what ever my MIJ P yields as a sale price... if i could bare to part with my expensive P (which i cant..ever) id love to rock a gibson. yu got balls working on a set neck, i sure couldnt take that plunge but you will undoubtedly reap the rewards. either way im seriously jealous and hope it turns out as you like it

oh, well you're welcome for the GAS dude, we all need a top up now and then! As for the neck, I either have balls or a lack of sense - but I also have insurance in the form of a buddy who is fairly experienced with this stuff. So I will dry fit it all but won't commit to glue until he gives the go ahead.

The ESP or the Epi Standard was where I was looking before I found this body. You can always upgrade pups and electronics when you get more cash. Hope you find what you want man.

seriously. there is some serious bass porn in that thread...

i think ill put my P up in the classys and see if i cant snag a greco/tokai LP or Tbird trade then if i sell it probably look domestically for a greco. its a shame there are so many lack luster efforts from these companies on a domestic level. im sure gibson patents keep em from certain things but is it a crime to at least make em decent quality?!?!?

like the title says who else currently makes or has made a QUALITY Les Paul style basses.
Im GAS'n pretty hard for one but the Gibson options are just a hair out of my range. plus most of these basses would have to be ordered in for me as no shops around here are rocking any LP basses so feed back on quality and experiences with the bass are appreciated.

look for an epiphone les paul STANDARD bass, they are very underrated basses and are pretty close to the gibson version. just need to swap the pickups.
