I do own a black Fender Jazz with white guard and maple board. Don't really like black, I bought it for the neck.

Who finds black basses boring?

I'm getting a Squire SS Jag bass this weekend and I'm leaning towards the black one, but I want to get a custom colored pick guard. Anyone got any suggestions or pics of their black basses with cool/different pick guards?

I have a Black high gloss Warwick with no pickguard and a rosewood board. I don't want to strip it or anything like that, but I would like some ideas as to how I could make it more lively. Anyone?

Pickguard is a place to start. Several companies will let you design your own, trace it on a template and send it in, and they'll cut it for you.
Post a picture, and I bet you get a lot of responses.
I married a Brooklyn Italian and everything in my house used to be black or white, including the pets; two black cats, two white cats, one black and white dog. In the past twenty years she's had two black and one white car. 90% of her wardrobe is black. I'm so sick of black, then I found this...
My USA Fender Jazz Deluxe Fretless. I don't find it boring at all. But, as a rule I stay away from black guitars. I do have an old Ric 4001 in black, but IMHO that's the color they should be.

How about fitting it with gold hardware, or wooden hardware (pickup covers, knobs, back plates, etc)? These would have the added advantage of being reversible, should you ever decide to sell the bass.
You could also have a binding added to the fretboard - a wooden binding if you are going with wooden hardware, or an ordinary plastic one if not. Or you could have some incredible mother-of-pearl marquetry inlaid into the fretboard!
Posting photographs should get a few other responses coming in.
Dull & boring Fender content. Of course, it's got playability, vibe & tone. Other than that, pretty dull.
Funny seeing that Jazz De luxe black/ rosewood / tort. I have the identical bass and haven't played it in months, playing . mostly my Rivoli or EBO short scales.
Point is, my buddy tried a set of Fender tape wounds on his fretless and hated them. We replaced the rounds I was planning on replacing with flats on this bass with the tapes and now I can 't put it down.

I played my Jazz, with Chromes, for about a year. Really liked it, but it wasn't quite there for me. I switched to a Bongo (different style of music), but recently came back to Spector. I had high hopes for the Jazz, but I've just always loved Spectors.
This thread is why basses come in different colors. It's possible for you to get a bass in any color you want. I suggest dwelling on that instead of wallowing in negativity.

I did make a quick pickguard out of a WBW P Bass Pickguard, but I cut it out to resemble nothing like a P Bass Pickguard, and it instantly "Fenderized" it.
I could do some sort of back plates, but don't know what or where. I'd like gold hardware, but the frets are nickel so I'd like to just keep it chrome.
I've been thinking of doing some sort of pinstriping, or stickers made to a specific design, like spider-webs or something.
Now that I've seen it, I wouldn't change a thing. I think that bass is a knock-out!! Sophisticated and elegant. Gorgeous. Maybe I do like black basses after all....
The problem with black basses is that they turn to mush under bad lighting. That's why I like the ivory pickguard on ma jazz, it makes it look gorgeous on stage, no matter the lighting
I wish I didnt hate black basses- they are usually cheaper and there's lots of cool black basses that I pass up because I prefer natural/sunburst and maple fingerboard a!
