Who has only one bass?

Just curious to know who all here on TB owns and uses just one bass? I am on the verg of having only one bass (Fender Precision Standard) and I am just wondering how it works for others? I know they say you always want to have a backup especially when gig'ing, however knock-on-wood I have yet to ever break a bass string and also when at venues I keep my stuff under supervision. Just curious how others "do it."

I only have this one:

It's an Ibanez BTB with a set of SGD Sidewinders and a Nordstrand MM installed, and it also has an Audere 3ZB installed. Using just the Sidewinders I A/B'd it against an MIA Jazz and an MIA Stingray and was easily able to cop tones very similar to both basses. With the EQ set flat the Sidewinders sounded just like the MIA Jazz. I just needed to boost the upper and lower mids to get a tone very close to the Stingray.

I find that the Sidewinders paired sound too much like the MM, so I'll be putting an SGD Neo MM in place of the Nordy MM soon. Then I should be able to get a credible P-Bass tone out of this bass.

Ive had my mim jazz for the last ten years and for those ten years its been my only bass. I want a new bass eventually but for the past decade its served me well, ive abused it,needlessly at times, but its always served me well

I have gotten down to just one bass. Fender American Standard Jazz...which is for sale.

I only want one bass. I know there are lots of reasons to have more, some good, some just excuses, but I can be happy with one bass...if only I could find it.

I effectively have just one, a '73 Precision that I just got and love love love. I do have one ancient D'Agostino J copy I'm about to sell to help pay for it (soon to post in classifieds, email me if you're interested! beautiful, chunky bass, deep tone, block inlays, handwound pickup, etc, I love it but need to cover the P).

I decided at my 45th birthday to get at least one really good instrument (and amp, for the electrics) for each of the instruments I play - first acoustic guitar last year (Lowden O25), and now the P. Next up - electric guitar! (51 Nocaster maybe).

I have several, but I'm just chiming in to tip my hat to all of you with one bass - I think you're awesome. Most of us probably have more than we need, whether we admit it or not. I love my little assortment, but I can't say I'm truly happier than during my first few years when I only had one (a Yamaha BB300, which I still have and love).

@fourstringbliss - that Ibanez BTB of yours is gorgeous. Nicest one of those I've seen, and nice work getting it to where it is.

I had only one bass - a 1969 Fender Jazz - that I gigged with for many years. I regret selling it - It never failed me and I never wanted or needed another bass when I had it.

Now I have 4 basses - Fender Jazz Standard, Fender Jazz Fretless, Fender Active Deluxe Jazz, and a Schecter Stilletto.

If I had to pick one it would be the Active Deluxe. The fretless is a fun diversion and great for improving accuracy. The Standard is like just a spare bass, but looks really hot. The Schecter is fabulous and would be my second choice for having just one bass if I didn't have the Active Deluxe.

If I get called for an electric gig, I only have one electric that's ready to go. A 1967 Gibson EB-0. My Fender Jazz fretless has been in pieces for a while after messing around with it and never getting around to finishing a project with it. Meh. I have 3 upright basses if I want to play fretless.
