Who hates this?

Bass players are not aloud to use picks.

Where does that come from? Who cares..? Oh it is cheating using a pick as you can go faster, or bass wasn't invented for picks you aren't a real bass player.

How many of you out there use a pick most/all of the time?

Well there are some bassists out there that are up themselves. The only reason I do not actually use my fingers is that clank noise that you get.

It used to be that if you wanted a mellow, warm sound, you had to use your fingers, but with new effects boxes, and different types of strings, using a pick works just as well, and sometimes better! I've been playing bass (not well, but still playing) since the late sixties, and now prefer a pick.

I almost always use a pick because it's the right sound for the music my band plays. When I need a fingerstyle sound, I use my fingers. Pick, fingers, slap, carrots...it's just different tools to get the job done right.

It is good to see that you are converted ha ha.
I also play slap bass which is hard going from pick, it can be done though.

I had an attitude like that. Then I grew up. If you get a great tone by slapping your bass with a catfish, that's all that really matters. People usually say things like that out of jealousy or a lack of self confidence.

Ha ha sneak away, make sure no one is looking too. Is there a reason why you do not get it?

its all about the sound... Use the pick when you think that sound best. I changes very much between both. On the other hand, I like to feel the strings, but it is the sound that has the last word.

I play with a pick when needed. If Steve Harris used one on a song, I will. Along with countless others.
