Who here is using a modern cab with the Mesa 400/400+/D180?

The late 80's to mid 90's Mesa cabs that worked well with these heads are getting harder to come by these days.

I have a ShuttleMax that pairs well with my Avatar Neo 210/410 cabs. The 400+ sounds decent enough but really shines through the road ready 2x15 I tested and my buddy's road ready 4x10. They're completely different animals but plenty of tones I like between the two heads depending on style, song and mood.

I doubt I'll get an opportunity to bring my 400+ to a store to try out two dozen cabs - What modern day cabs have you all had success with?

I’m not sure it’s all that modern, but my Bass 400+ sounds great and very loud through my avatar b212 with neo speakers.

Speaking from ignorance here but I'm assuming the Neo Avatar speakered cabinets were designed with a slightly different philosophy and optimization that were appropriate for modern heads and perhaps not so much for an all tube dinosaur.

I suppose what I'm really asking is at a high level, what about the road ready cabs from the era is different than how cabs are built today. Maybe it all just comes down to the quality of speaker used.

The neo cabs are just missing something I can't put in words; the sound is good not great.

My 400+ sounds excellent through my MarkBass CL108 8x10 with neo's.
In fact, I used that very setup to open up for Dwight Yoakam a few years back

I run my 400+ into two Aguilar GS 112 cabs as well as two DB 112 cabs. That amp sounds fantastic through either pair. I also have an old Bergantino 3x10 cab that also sounds great with this amp. As good as the amp sounded back in the day when I used it into a Mesa 2x15, I think it sounds much better into these modern cabs and imagine it would into a modern Mesa cab as well.
