I had the QSC KW series and the coating was exactly the same as the EV's. With the money I saved on the EV's I bought Tuki padded bags along with quite a few other things. I've owned these for 3 months now and gig them 3 to 4 times a week. There is no evidence that there are any corners cut.

In our band we have both k and livex
in reality once they're dialed into the room, they're comparable.
Only livex issue I've had was overheating in direct sunlight .. they went into thermal protect... to be expected when it's 120 in the sunshine.

What I hear in the live x is warmth. The live x demo's well for sure. Real world, I might be spending as much time dialing things out with the live x as I would dialing things in with the K's... The low end is maybe not as tight as the K10. Not sure that is a big deal as I have subs... Not sure that it makes a big difference either way once there is a driverack in play... Given some sonic compromise, I could probably wine bsr everything, including my bass through the EV. The K10 maybe not so well without the sub... Decisions, decisions...
It's the warmth of the Live X that I love about these speakers. I have no probelm at all dialing them in. The ELX112p handle the bass very well and will handle your wine bar gigs without breaking a sweat and sound great. The Driverack makes a huge difference, but is not necessary, especially on smaller gigs. When I run the sub the driverack is a must to tighten up the bass. I heard a band with a K system last week and it sounded really dry compared to the EV's.
I bought the K10's. The Ev's sound real impressive. The K10's sound real and ultimately, that is preferrable in my book. Lot's of ways to get to good sound, I know. I think it will be easier for me with the K10's. The EV's are no slouch by any means, to my ear the audio quality of the K10's was mo bettah. The EV's will probably get louder by some degree.
BTW - If you're looking for K series - go to RMC audio. RMC - they aren't just for GK anymore... Sweet deal @ $1400 delivered in the K- tote bags.
