Who likes playing disco bass lines? (cringe)

OH YES!!!

Bernard Edwards, bassist and production genius with CHIC (the BEST disco band.... period) Is one of my all time favorite players. Listening to him play always brings a smile to my face.

Bernard co-produced (with Nile Rodgers) Diana Ross's solo album "DIANA" in 1980 (essentially CHIC with Diana as lead singer). His playing on that album was MONUMENTAL!!!!!!

If you mean like the old disco funk stuff then yeah some of the basslines were amazing, I'm particularly fond of the bass on "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by McFadden & Whitehead... and "And The Beat Goes On" by The Whispers! Such amazing songs, I'm not sure whether the bass on them was played on/by synthesizers though hehe :)

ummm.....disco bass lines are awesome. it is a great way to get really fluid with octaves and you usually have to stop yourself from throwing fills in every other measure. Plus the cheesier the song usually the more fun the bass line is to play. Disco bass is hard to play without a smile on your face. Rod Stewart's disco stuff is pretty fun to play albeit, repetitive. Same with Jamiroquai.

The Bee Gees "You Should Be Dancing" Yeahhh!!!!

Great groove. Bass and steady kick all the way!

Nothing fancy pants but, syncopated all the way.

Purrfect bass playing:)

I love playing disco bass whenever I can get away with it!
It's fun to watch the singer look @ me and the drummer like:rollno:

How did I end up with these goobers?

Playing in those songs and funk from the 70's really helped improve my playing!!!

I sat in with some guys a few weeks ago and they started playing KC & The Sunshine Band tunes that I hadn't played for 30 years and the recall in the brain worked like a computer pulling up files. The bass player is a friend and he said, "Wow, you played the actual recorded parts!" Yeah man, very interesting and deep grooves...

So, YES, I enjoy playing disco bass lines!

I just watched Chic at Montreux (2004). Great show, great band. Tight. Jerry Barnes was playing bass. Some may not like disco but the basslines are great and playing disco, well, is not a walk in the park.
