Who makes a good Rat?

Not to me we're not. The Rat engines are in the ballpark, but compared to my MXR Bass D, they miss the mark.

I tried the MXR against the AfterShock. Sold the MXR

The Volt Thrower is by far the best and most versatile Rat I've ever tried. It's also the only pedal I've regretted selling.

You got that right. I've never considered selling mine for that reason. I really have no need for it but it's just too good. The best.

I have not tried many, but I'm happy with the Blower Box. The MXR Bass Distortion and SA After Shock might be better, but I've no reason to look beyond the Blower Box.

Dunwich Volt Thrower and Fuzzrocious Rat/Cat Tail are the tops IMO, but your setup could yield different results. So many rats out there.

Another vote for the Idiotbox Blower Box. It's blown almost all my other dirt pedals away.

I use a Freakshow Pedal Brown Rabbit for years now and it's still one of my favorite dirt pedals so far. I think the Fuzzrocious stuff gets alot of love for good reason.

But i just stumpled over the demo from Pedals and Effects for the Wood Cutter by Big Ear and i think it sounds amazing in that demo.

EDIT: all the mentioned pedals are rat clones.
