Not to be a smartass, but how about an actual Telecaster? Vintage version 2s (neck humbucker, made 1972-78) can be found in the $2,000 range, and nothing--absolutely nothing--beats the vintage tele neck. I know players whose new (at the time) teles have fallen to dust, but they still keep transplanting that neck to other bodies.
Squier make a Classic Vibe, and dont be put off by the name, from research conducted on tb and youtube when i wanted one. Most people think they are better than MiM fenders. And they sure as hell sound better!
