I have a Gamma made by Joey Milstein in NJ. Mine has a P body with J neck, but he makes all combinations. They are very, very nice with punchy pickups and lots of great color options, and the price is pretty reasonable. Love mine.

I have a 1965 Fender Jazz Bass.
I have found 3 Bacchus MIJ Jazz Basses and they are superb instruments.

I like my Modulus J for modern sounding J bass, I have had it for 12 years. For traditional old school I really enjoy my Bill Nash, but I have only played it for six months or so and it needs no mods whatsoever. Just my 2 cents and nothing more. Take your time, sooner or later you will pick up a bass and just know that you have to have it, like these two of mine!

My Alleva Coppolo KBP4 at work... ( Poudah).
I have a photo of my J5 somewhere .. i will post soon..
If it weren't for mt Alleva Coppolo basses i would get one of the new Fenders . The Allevas are Cadillacs in the vintage fender thing,, But Fenders are relatively priced well , you can buy them anywhere and covers it all.

Just get a Fender and be done with it. There is a reason there are so many different makes available. You got a Fender, ain’t nobody beating yer sound.
I love Fender basses and my Marcus Miller plays like a dream, but I did have it set up. I am curious about Reverend guitars Invalid Link Removed and Revelation guitars RBJ-67 - Revelation Guitars each of whom make a Jazz bass, but not enough to buy one yet.

Mt first choice Jazz bass style bass are my Alleva Coppolo LG5 basses..
Second choice would be the new Fenders..

I would be looking at the neck and how it is finished along the edges. My old Fender J-bass has plastic trim along the edge of the frets that really saves on the wear and tear(sp) on the hands when I am playing for extended periods. New units don't seem to have this anymore. Should be a photo to go with this....

Another vote for Xotic! I recently picked up a second hand XJ-1T and I couldn't be happier. The tone, craftsmanship and playability are absolutely top notch. I will also give a thumbs up to Mike Lull as well. I've never owned one of his basses but have played many and they are incredible.
It has to be Sadowsky NYC. DYI's are nice... I have a couple too. I spent $2500 on the last one w upgrades & add-ons and such, (trying to get it close to my Sadowski), to no avail. Sadowsky pickups & preamp combinations are something else, tight, growl whatever you want. Their necks and setup is so comfortable, you will find yourself playing for hours at ease. I've heard the Metro's and they sound great... as food as an NYC? I don't know. Plus Roger Sadowsky is so accessible. Bigtime personal touch from their shop. Good luck in your search.
