Who or what is Monoprice?

They make / market good / decent quality cables, racks that sort of stuff for AV, Music, Computer Networking etc... on the cheap. I have a fairly extensive collection of Monoprice cables and switch rack, only one cable failure in 6 years, and that was caused by rolling a chair over and ripping a network cable that shouldn't have been where it was.

I love monoprice... I get audio and video cables and other knick knacks from them... But, I've yet to buy guitar cables or speakons or the like...

And yes they sell instruments... I've yet to try a bass guitar from them... I bought a electric strat copy at least a year and a half ago... Think I paid under a c note on special... Great deal for what I paid for... Not a fender... But as good as some squiers... Gave it away as a gift... it had a monoprice decal on the headstock...

I have several Monoprice cables for different applications. Male XLR to TRS and TRS to XLR Female. I found them to have over-sized cables with reasonably good quality ends. They have served me well for a number of years. I wouldn't hesitate ordering again.

I'll chime in here and say that I recently switched half of my rig to Monoprice pedals. I've got the compressor and the DI Mini from them. They are working just fine. I've done about four or five weekends worth of gigging with them and not a single hitch yet. I will say this though, the blue LED on the compressor is insanely bright. I think I saw someone in another thread who shared a link to order some plastic see-through dimming gels. I'll be looking into that for sure.

Anyway, the build quality is very solid and the sound quality is equally good. I am a very satisfied customer. If I remember correctly, I think I got both pedals for around $100 or maybe even a little less.

I own one of their P bass knockoffs. Despite the claim of all guitars being "inspected by a master luthier before shipping" it showed up with some pretty obvious quality control issues (like a spare pickup screw rolling around in the electronics cavity). The strings sounded absolutely awful at first and the pots were scratchy as hell but after giving strings and pots a good workout both started sounding reasonably nice for a $105 bass. After a little basic setup I found myself playing it more than some of my more expensive basses.

I (and my IT department colleagues) exclusively buy their networking and PC cables for our company. I decided to give them a shot on XLR and 1/4" cables, they do just fine and are pretty sturdy. I'm about to order a lot of patch cables for my pedalboard from them. We'll see how those go.

Can't recommend monoprice enough! I tell my friends at least to by their hdmi cables from them... saves them tons of money compared to the big chains.

Maybe one day I'll check out a p bass... but until the stinking awesome deals stop coming from the classified here... then as it stands... probably not... not that I have anything against a monoprice p bass... but for pennies more I could get a really nice squier, or ibanez, or peavey, or esp, etc...

Monoprice has great deals on most types of cables. I opened my studio 2 years ago and bought a few dozen shot patch cables (xlr, 1/4", etc) and they have all been fine. HDMI and fiber optic cables are also available for really good prices. My only bad experience was ordering a battery charger, which got stolen along the way and I had an empty package delivered. I emailed them with pictures and they promptly sent me a replacement for no charge, and I still use it.

Are these really speaker cables??? Yes, it says 16AWG, which is big for instrument cable.
But it also says: "It uses 16 AWG stranded, pure copper conductors and employs copper braid shielding with 97.5% coverage to ensure that stray radio frequency and electromagnetic signals do not degrade the audio quality of your performance."

It also says this:

Which points to links that clearly say "instrument cable".

So, what did I order, and how am I supposed to tell if it's speaker cable? From the comments on the site, other people also think they are guitar cables.

Can you open the end and see if a shield exists? If not, the DCR of the tip to tip is higher than the DCR of the sleeve to sleeve in a shielded cable.

If the cable is unshielded (speaker cable), the DCR of the 2 conductors is close to equal. They might have shipped you the wrong part.
