Who plugs straight in? What do you use?

Yes it is. I love how it gives me that grind sound. I usually go back to my distortion pedal but the terror sounds amazing, between clean and grind i love it all round

Replacing the 8x10 with a JBL E140 loaded Acoustic 406 2x15 and have since taken out the DOD 250 from the picture.

When I play jazz, I plug straight in. Depending on the situation, it's either a Sterling fretless 4 (love that bass) or an Upton Upright with a Revolution pickup into either a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-8T or 3.0-10T. When I play anything rock related, I have an EBS ValveDrive preamp on full time and a pedalboard that I use on some of the songs.
These days it's downsizeville so it's just my CV Jazz into a GK MB112 and into the PA for more FOH if needed.
The only pedal I ever used was Real Tube into my Carvin head biamped with 2x10 and 2x15 cabs. That pedal was a waste. My last bigger rig was an Ampeg SVT III Pro into a Hartke 4.5xl and after that into a Bag End 2x12. Aside from that Real Tube I've always plugged straight in.

Any number of Fender MIA Jazz basses, ( 4 string ) into a Carvin BX1500, into a LDS 212/Horn cab, loaded with 3012HO's and an 18 Sound Xd 125 horn/tweet. If not that, same basses into a Roland DB 700 combo.
Most of the time at home, it's a Ric 4003 or Washburn Force 8 into a LMII into a fEARful 12/6. Caveat: With the band, I might throw the VT Bass pedal in there, but it's mainly for the extra volume.

i have always felt that Bass is a distinctly different instrument and when i see bass players with alot of effects or wanking on a 6 string i ma thinking they have guitar envy
