Who plugs straight in? What do you use?

This rig works for 90% of the work I do, otherwise I'll add a DI at the front end or another 112 cabinet if I need it. The tuner is isolated from the signal chain. If you use a Korg pitchblack or other bypass equipped units, then it is good to go before the amp.

Never used a toy in 30 years.. My tone needs to be clear, well defined, and punchy, or I have a hard time getting the feel (which is 90% of how I play)

Signal chain - my USA Peavey Millenium Plus fiver - solid state Bmax, DCM600, fEARful 1212/6.. I did gig an O15TB w/a pair of Delta 12LF's which was pretty acceptable, but the fEARful beats it out..

Yeah feel is big for me too. Im not the most savvy or talented but i think one thing i have some grasp of is feel & whats appropriate (inappropriate)

I plug a Korg Pitchblack tuner into the tuner jack of the preamp.

I used to use a Boss bass chorus occasionally, but I haven't taken it out of my gig bag for more than two years!
