That must have been a 'dare' at the factory... 
At the same time, it's sooo mismatched that it starts becoming 'quirkily attractive' or something. Very unique and distinct, for sure.

Now. be fair, for all we know, EBMM could have perfect control over poor quality! 
I'll be honest, I kind of like it. Heck of a lot more rare than any of those "Family Reserve" premium collectibles.
Although if I bought it online without seeing it first and had some expectations about how it was supposed to look, I probably wouldn't be happy when it arrived.

Now you have to find the person with the other half of your bass and buy that one too.
I’ve seen worse. Not from SBMM, but in general.
To be fair, I've seen 3,000 Les Pauls with matches like thatWell, uhm ....
Looks consistent with some Squier VM basses I've had!

Reminds me of some of the horrid refinishes I'v seen where somebody takes a painted instrument and strips it to a natural finish to let the wood's 'beauty' shine through.
Feels like one of those mis-stamped coins from the US mint that become extremely valuable because they were released in error. I would not let that bass go. It's unique in a way that you won't typically see and who knows... if you hit the big time, that bass will have story and history.
