A lot of people come from a Father and a Mother that look nothing alike. Thankfully, we generally don't come out looking like that.
I've made a couple dozen instruments from Warmoth wood, and their bookmatching is superb - the only body that I ever got that wasn't bookmatched was one that was....one piece. It was assymetrical, but gorgeous.

I'm guessing they never considered painting it.

Not gonna lie... i'd totally rock a bass with 4 different figured woods as top & back veneers.That must have been a 'dare' at the factory...
At the same time, it's sooo mismatched that it starts becoming 'quirkily attractive' or something. Very unique and distinct, for sure.
It would have to be all 4 completely different woods with different figuring beautiful patterns, and would need to be cut DOWN THE CENTER LINE though. I'm thinking Carl Thompson/Les Claypool's Rainbow bass, but less patches of wood.
But, not, whatever this is.
I bet this was the factory gluing together off-size pieces of scrap wood to reduce waste, and was supposed to be a solid color to hide it, and someone screwed up which paint batch it went into.
Makes me wonder how many of their solid color basses are like this.
OT but it cracks me up how cats are the opposite of what you are describing. Black cat and a white cat have kittens, one is black, one is white, one is grey, one is cow-colored... Maybe basses are like cats
There’s a Secret Society out there whose sole responsibility is to prevent this from happening. “The basses must never be joined. The future of humanity depends on it”!
I’ve seen a fair number of poorly matched pieces on even some high-end builders. This one is remarkable - and should have been shunted to the “paint line”.
A solid finish would've solved that situation in short order. Luckily, the primary finish problem is on the back and won't be seen on stage. Then again ... who knows ... maybe it'll make it a collector's item someday.Well, uhm ....
That's kinda fun. Makes me think they had it on the line planning to paint it solid and someone said "ya know, that flame is too pretty to cover up" and well here we are.
I know several people that praise their Gibson Les Pauls for having half a barn door and half beautiful flamed maple on the cap. I wonder what those people would make of this 
Must have been trained by the same person that did Peavey or Squier and yes I have seen worse. Sometimes the uniqueness or a body that is not book matched works but that example s pretty bad, should be sold as a second IMHO.

Then there are chimera cats, bringing chaos to order, and flame maple tops to barn-door basses.
They do that because it improves the tone. See you take a nice piece of figured wood and mate it with a piece of bland-looking tone wood. You end up with a unique bass that sounds 1/2 as good.

Its a multipiece body. You are not getting book matched anything. It happens. Probably should have been a solid color model though
