Given my particular radio circumstance growing up, the first time I HEARD bass was 1980, 'Another One Bites the Dust' and 'New World Man' and 'Subdivisions' by Rush. This sparked an interest, but no bass yet.
I had not even heard the Beatles or Zeppellin yet LOL.
By 1990 I had moved out on my own from my parents, and I had loved Rush for years by then. So dived in and bought my first bass; a new Ric 4003S in FireGlo and an Acoustic combo amp.

So there I was, learning the fretboard and trying to stumble through Rush and "Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes
Then in 92, got married and gave it up till December 1999, when I was watching Yes's "Live from the House of Blues" performance on DirecTv. Squire just KILLED on that show and was smiling and having a blast the whole time, and making it look EASY! I've been back on board ever since.
Thank you to those who make me want to play:
Ged, Chris, J Jamerson, J Deacon, J Taylor, L Claypool, J McVie, T Weymouth, A Clayton, P McCartney, D McKagan, J Pastorius, Flea, and my good friend S Burrows
