Who's behind the beat?

I've played a lot of blues and a lot of New Orleans R&B. You have to know how to play behind the beat to make this stuff feel right. All the old guys did that, like Sam and Dave. A bit of a tip - drag beat 4 and hear how fat the track becomes.

The note about dragging beat 4. Is that just on the bass?

I think it starting to settle, groove, and dare I say even swing a bit.

The changes he made feel good to me. Personally I'd just play it and get on with the next thing.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Have learned a ton from this. I've realised you've just got to give the tune what it needs. It's gonna be what it needs to be. Wherever on the beat that may be!
