Anyone like Hip Hop..i know its not really a genre for electric bass bar a few.. but these are fantastic..

I dj'ed for a long time and it spawned for my love of hip-hop(not rap music) there is a difference. Anyway most hip-hop is dead and rap has turned into the equivalent of 80's pop music.

Its very popular with the kiddies but man its just getting sad.

Although there still is some decent hip-hop left.

Atmosphere, Eyedea, Brother Ali all Minnesota guys are very very talented. Along with that Dilated Peoples is great and DJ Babu is one of the most talented DJ's out there. Kottonmouth Kings still have some of the best music as far as I'm concerned even though every song is about weed.

All that said I barely listen to any hip-hop anymore it think it was a phase, I need something more with actual writing ability and instruments not just a bunch of programming.

Rap and hip hop are seen as one and the same to those in the industry and the pioneers as well. Met KRS One a while back and had a big discussion on what he felt was hip hop and what the state of hip hip was/is. Also, He and many agree with this distinction.

Just like not all rock is bad, not all hip hop is bad either. Yet because of the lacking creativity in mainstream hip hop nowadays, I hear so many people say they hate or dislike rap music. When its only because the sub genre of southern hip hop has been big right now. And I find it very lacking in content in comparison to more socially conscious acts, such as Mos Def, Sage Francis, etc

This I know. Thanks for adding it for others to now know. Breaking and Tagging tho, are not as popular as they once were though, sadly

What I meant is that when you say hip hop music, or rap music, it is generally seen as the same thing. I have no idea why nowadays though, some try to call mainstream hip hop, or any hip hop they dont like, rap. While calling the rest hip hop.

There are plenty of hip-hop artists that are not rap. And not all rap is hip-hop. In these days of cross-over music, you can't draw hard lines anymore.

Anywho, if you would like to hear good hip-hop music that is not rap, try anything RJD2 or Prefuse 73.

Socio-political rap... try K'naan. I think you'll be surprised.

Digable Planets played in Denver last weekend. My sister went and said it was awesome. I've always loved this song:

Saw the DPs a couple of years ago and they were a lot of fun. I was disappointed that they didn't have a live band but they clearly didn't have the budget for that (they did, however, have a percussionist with them). The crowd was surprisingly small but the DPs turned it out and seemed to be very down-to-earth folks. Definitely one of my favourite rap outfits ever (both of their albums are stone-cold classics).
