Who's kicking off 2023 with new strings?

Just bought a used bass.
Keeping the “mystery strings” on it I don’t know, they sound good to me and they appear new.
But I have a brand new set of Rotosound RS66LF 45-105 strings, waiting in the wings.

I did a complete inventory of all my basses and strings to make sure I have a fresh set on the bass and a set in reserve, or a couple sets in reserve for my #1 gig bass.

Just got a Sire D-5 and put TI jazz flats on it. To my knowledge, Rounds didn't even exist until the '70's?? Perhaps someone here knows exactly when they became available. I had a '63 Fender Jazz with the original strings on it until one broke in '81 (flats, of course). I was SO bummed out. Couldn't find any flats at the time.

Nah, the TI Jazz flats on most of my basses are all somewhere between 1-3 years old... They've all got several years left on them! The rounds that I do have are just getting broken in. ;)

Long time Roto 77 flats user … loud, bright strings … but comes with a good bit of tension.

Tried the EB Cobolt flats for a few months. Eh. Nice strings but something going on with the winding feeling like it’s separating.

Just installed GHS Precision flats yesterday … wow these are indeed “the sound of chocolate”! Liking the silky smoove feel and lower tension.

.But who else has new strings for '23?

A few months ago, I slapped on a set of Ernie Ball Short Scale Regular Slinky's on one of my Ibanez Talman TMB30's. I was only using Fender nylon tapewounds on all of my basses for the last 5 or more years. Steel strings used to hurt my fingers but apparently, they don't anymore. Loving the bright snappy sounds. I may never go back to tapewounds or flatwounds again.

I have gotten some good life out of the Curt Mangan strings that came on my Muckelroy when I picked it up from Brady on Dec 31st of 2021. I went about 6 months on that set and restrung this past summer. Once I get home from vacation it’s definitely due again.
