I haven't kept up with the forum as much as I used to, but a little over a year ago when I joined there was quite praise. The thing to do was bash pete wentz.

No need to be like that. She and Plaster Caster aren't his best work. He's capable of much more, as evidenced in the clips I posted.
Never said he was a great player just that I like him and I like his playing. Like I said previously, I like bass players who play songs.
This is pretty much how I feel. I guess I should've been a little less "Greaty" in my defense of the guy though.
i think mike league from snarky puppy is underrated
i think if you dont like jazz its because your not able to hear it, which means your lacking period. just like if you listen to jazz and cant see the genius in meshuggah then your lacking. or if you listen to hiphop and cant see that willie nelson' music is great then your sucking in your ability to appreciate music for what it is. gene simons did a lovely job playing bass for kiss. by the way who ever said that wooten, jaco, and marcus miller are overrated is on suck right now. thats like saying Mother Teresa didnt do a very good job at being a decent person...

Ronnie Barnett of the Muffs is great.
Bruce Foxton of the Jam
Jimmy Wilsey was fabulous on the Avengers tracks he played on (though he's obviously more well-known as Chris Isaak's guitar player).
Others have mentioned Bruce Thomas and Kira Roessler, and I agree.
Can't imagine why anyone would say Paul McCartney is either underrated or overrated. He was only the slickest instrumentalist in the greatest band of all time. He is simply Sir Paul, and that's all there is to it.
And Geezer Butler, Gene Simmons and Mike Watt are underrated? Last I checked, those guys' places in rock history were pretty secure, whether you like their playing or not.

Throwing in my vote for Rutger Gunnarsson who did most of ABBA's bass. Not really underrated; those who pay attention tend to be pretty unanimous in their praise, but definitely not getting the attention he deserves.
Second: John Illsley from Dire Straits. Quite a different type of player, hardly ever flashy. Not so much a pocket player as a hammock player in which Mark Knopfler's guitar rocked very comfortably.
Overrated? Who cares? But that Fieldy bit was pretty painful...

Forgot about Conrad Lozano from Los Lobos, Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads, and Kim Deal from The Pixies. All three underrated players.
I'd like to second a couple names mentioned as underrated:
Mike Mills
Nate Watts
and add Mike Mesaros of the Smithereens. Great sense of melody and IMO very much like McCartney with more edge. And originator of the Rick 4003 SPC Blackstar.

I had the privilege of doing sound set up for The Smithereens while I was at UMass, Amherst in 1988. I played the three basses (Ric and 2 Fender's) that he had set up (not so sure if I was "cleared" to do so, but nobody seemed to care). I played the bass riff to Blood & Roses on the stage rig, I believe Ampeg; sounded awesome. The guitarists both had Ric's; band was real cool and down to earth - I was born in Montclair, NJ so we had that Jersey connection
I agree, his lines are catchy and edgy.
IMO- There really is no "most- over and underrated", all matter of opinion and you can't argue opinion! ...just fun to read some of the comments!
