Why are there no Fender Precision 5 strings?

I have a Am. Std. P5 and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. It's a 2011 model and may be the best playing bass I've ever laid hands on. Sounds like a P with an extra string (and yes, the B sounds good).

Wow that Deluxe P is one GAS inducing bass! I don't think it's gonna go cheap though! I'm drooling but can't justify that kind of scratch right now. Especially since I'm so happy with my self-modded Squire p-5. What with all the love for P-basses around here, I can't figure out why there are tons of jazz 5ers but if you want a p-5er you just about have to build it yourself!

That's a pretty bold statement! Have you done much research, to justify such a bashing of such a good instrument? I currently own 2, a rosewood neck, and a maple neck. Both have Ken Lawrence pick ups, and John East preamps. Basses are played professionally, in blues, 50's, and C&W circles, where status is of no importance. Yes, I am afraid I play certain venues, where you are only as good as your equipment, to certain soundmen. Why I feel the need to appease them I do not know, but the P5's handle the job well.

I just bought a new American Standard Precision 5 today in Olympic White. I was looking for that P bass tone in a fiver, to cover off the classic rock material I play when I'm not using my Hofner or my EBMM 5er's. Got a great deal on it too.

Looking forward to start gigging with it next week.

Go to Alto Music in Middletown. That's where I got both my Fender American Deluxe Precision 5 string (2006 or 2007) as well as my Fender American Standard 5 string (2009). And that last time I was there a few weeks ago, they had a used Fender American Standard 5 string P-Bass.

Sorry, but you're not going to get one for the lowball figure of $500. If you want a Precision 5 string, you're either going to have to get more realistic about the pricing, or you might want to try out the Schecter Diamond P 5 string.

I know my pricing is out of line for a MIA Fender, but I was hoping that there was a MIM out there somewhere. I might try and see if they still have that one at Altos. Thanks for the tip. PM me if you remember the price, or at least the color. I'm going to call them today. Do you know if they do layaway?

Not sure about the exact price, but it was reasonably below retail. And IIRC, it was 3 tone sunburst. If you can put some money down they will hold a bass for you.

And FYI, there is no MIM Fender Precision 5 string on the market. It simply doesn't exist.

Fender started making 5 strings long, long ago.
My first Fender 5 was a 1990 active Jazz Deluxe 5; and it was a great bass.

Fender started making the American Standard P5 in 2008, we reviewed it for Bass Gear Magazine. It was a fine instrument; but hardly the first P5 Fender ever made. The active PJ5 deluxe has been around a long time.

The new American Standard line do use high mass bridges; and they're quite nice instruments.

I played a 2012 American Standard Jazz 5 this week, and it was a stellar bass, and if I didn't have 5 such things already, I'd surely have one of those. It was great.

Sandberg make excellent 5-string Ps, at least from my experience. However, I've only played ones with a MM-style pickup in the bridge.
