Why aren't G&L basses more popular?

That's cool - whatever works for ya, bud... G&L makes a good instrument, no question about it...

Yeah, I was just pointing out the subjective nature of what we all do. It's part of what I love about playing, there is no right way, even if there are a lot of wrong ones

To my eye, they look BORING.

Every time I see a G&L, it's a natural finish on plain looking wood with a bunch of knobs and switches on the face. In short, it looks like somebody built it in their garage.

Compare that to Fenders and Stingrays that have muscle-car looks on top of a more manageable control scheme, and it's just no contest.

I pretty much agree. Personally, I find that many models look kind of generic, even those with cool finishes. Maybe it's the lack of pickguard on the L-2000, etc. I do like the SB-2. The controls IMO are APITA to dial in properly on the L-2000 and similar models. I've had two L-2000s, wanting to love them, and I just prefer a simple P-Bass.

Many will disagree. Which is why Leo himself continued to come up with new models. Different strokes for different folks. G&L, personally not my choice. But, it does not make it a bad choice for others. I do agree that a P is a great choice...look at my avatar. But, I also have a MM too. That said, none of them say Fender, Musicman or G&L on the headstock though.

Vol up, bass up, treble up, both pups, series, passive. Sounds huge. Cuts like a knife. Not trying to convince anyone... Just sayin'.

Every G&L bass I've ever played, I hated. I hate the tone and playability: too bright and thin

I almost always had the bass turnd down 50% or more to keep it from being too fat, and I like fat.

As if the Precision didn't undergo radical changes throughout its entire history. Leo was constantly revising and updating his designs, and continued to do so long after leaving Fender.

Whichever of Leo's creations works best for you is your choice. Personally, I find merit in all of them.

Now, *to me* the "point" seems to work with that 3x2 headstock - not so much with the 4 on one side headstock...
