Why did Fender stop making Jaguar basses?!

Before I could buy one! Man! It's not available on Musiciansfriend or ZZsounds, and MF says its been discontinued! I really wanted one. Man. Why would they do such a stupid thing? They got good reviews. Anyone know?Because, a lot of times, fender does pretty stupid things. They discontinued the Aerodyne jazz bass, which was awesome...and they send all the good basses to fender japan.
Then they came out with the "gold" and "platinum" instrument cables, which were so overpriced even Monster would look at them and go, "Hey now, that's just unfair."
Yeah...I love my fenders, but I just scratch my head at some of the choices they make. Then I hit my head with my palm when they make stupider ones.
yeah, and they don't make the jazzbass with the s1 switch anymore, which is great

If you really dream of one, then you'll just buy one. It's crazy to think someone won't buy a dream bass just because it isn't available brand new. But I bet there are stores out there with them still in stock.
Used is better then buying new. you can get one for probably half of what stores sell them for. and all there will be is some minor scratches. all my basses have scratches its just part of playing out or being smashed at a show and thinking of trying a bass flip and getting the bass stuck in the ceeling. (true story ha)

i have a jag bass, and i think that the reason that they discontinued it (at least in the states anyway, if japan is indeed still making them) is because, for me, its tone falls short of a jazz or p bass. to me, the stock the pickups are mediocre at best, the preamp crude, (to boomy and bright), IMO, the bridge pickup is unusable alone, and having a routing hole right in the middle of the body under the pickguard for the preamp. it even could partially be that the actual body shape also makes it not sound as good as the other two. the problem is, i love the look of it, so i'm currently doing a few mods on mine to make it sound the way that i want it, since i intend to keep it.
another completely different reason, and probably more accurate, is it may be that it just didn't sell as well as expected, and with the new squier jag bass coming out, they possibly felt it to be somewhat redundant.

They discontinued them because they didn't sell!

FMIC doesn't drop successful product, and the Jaguar was a huge failure, at least initially.
They didn't even begin to catch on until they had ceased importation for a couple of years and the old stock was being dumped at long discount after sitting in the warehouse since 2007-2008.
If FMIC had kept the Jaguar, they would have had to price it comparably to the GL, and it flat wouldn't sell at that price. They had huge problems unloading them at $499 street.

- if a used bass is so sullied, so "infected" and so not up to your standards, how about you keep your "NO NO NO!" whining to yourself, m'kay? By cutting yourself off from the Used Instrument market, you've easily removed yourself from the single best place to find "hardly touched", NOS ("New Old Stock", aka sat in a room boxed up for years) and gear that you'd otherwise not be able to come close to affording. And especially in a place like TalkBass and the "For Sale" forums here, a used bass purchased here is far likelier to be in better shape than a New bass that's been hanging on the walls of your local Guitar Center or Mom 'n Pop, being slapped, picked, and generally wailed on by kids who don't know any better....but actually, I for one am glad you've made your little statement - it'll leave top-end gear out there for the rest of us.
~Ian, whose 6 of his 8 basses were "previously owned"... and who wouldn't & couldn't financially own several of his "dream basses" were it not for that fact.

I've never really looked into aerodynes, I'm guessing this is a new version or something?
Maybe not, but he would appreciate their ability to turn a profit. He was a very shrewd businessman who was all about shaving costs and increasing productivity at the factory.
