Why did I go see....?

While living in Texas I missed Sinatra's last tour with Dean Martin and Liza Minelli. Legends.

A couple of years ago I saw Robert Randolph and the Family Band in Denver - great music, but the venue had the volume so stupidly high that it was almost painful. It ruined the concert. I doubt I'll ever go back to that theater.

Best year 1982. Got to see both The Who and Black Sabbath (with Dio). Biggest regret not going to see Ozzy in Knoxville,TN in that same year, which was Randy Rhoads last performance. Could have gone but heard too many bad rumors. I'll regret that one forever.

My biggest missed concert regret was Dethklok/Mastodon/High on Fire. They were all respectively touring my favorite albums and I consider them my biggest influences. I can't believe I didn't go.

No embarrassing shows that I can remember, but the one I missed is a jaw-dropper:

I had tickets to see Jaco Pastorius at Convocation Hall in Toronto in 1982 (or '83?). They changed the venue to a bar due to lack of ticket sales, and I was only 15. I had to return the tickets. The Word of Mouth tour. I never got to see him live.

The absolute worst concert I went to was the tour in 91' with the damn yankees's Cinderella, and David lee Roth "eat'em and smile tour". the other bands were good David lee Roth was so drunk that he slipped on stage And fell durring one of his karate moves then the band was trying to play "panama" and it sounded like a train wreck! Then while the band was trying to figure out which note to play Roth starts singing completely out of key and also singing the wrong verse! And then tells the crowd while the song is still going and he's trying to figure out the lyrics that he forgot the words to his own song!! I was so embarrassed for him even to this day! I believe the tour was quickly canceled after that show!

One show that I was very please with and had very low expectations was Meatloaf. A girl that I worked with at the time had gotten into a fight with her boyfreind and asked if I wanted to go see meatloaf with her! I said he'll yeah! Been trying to get in her pants for months. Never really like any of meatloafs stuff but the show was very very good and sounded great!! Durring the show I kept working this girl and after the show we made a little music of our own in the back of her 1991 ford escort GT... Oh to be 20 something again!!:)

My only regret was not seeing Rush on the vapor trails tour!!

I've been fortunate to see lots of great concerts. some that stand out- my very first concert in 1982 was Rush on the signals tour. two page and plant tours, one with the middle eastern orchestra musicians and the other was just the band(and probably the closest I'd ever see to a true zeppelin show). Nine inch nails couple times(both amazing concerts). The Alice cooper show where he had this opening band that no one really knew much about yet- Guns and roses...lol. Elton john when it was just him and a grand piano...
The worst show I'd have to say was black oak Arkansas at a bike rally. They just didn't do well at all... but after the show they hung out and were nice guys though.
On a different note, one time back in the late 80's I ran into all the guys from Bon Jovi at a wal-mart! lol..they were nice and all signed their autographs, but you could tell they wanted to get the hell out of there.

My "Oh God, WHY?" concert has to be Wishbone Ash's Reunion Tour...despite getting the tickets for free...still would never do that. I honestly was wondering how they weren't out there in walkers...

Best concert I ever attended, hands down goes to The Big Four Tour. Seeing the stage shared by the giants of metal was a humbling experience and one I will cherish forever!

Hall of Shame show:

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young 3 or 4 Summers ago at Lake Tahoe's outdoor arena.
Those sweet harmonies - long gone I'm sorry to say. The only guy seeming to be at all into it was Graham Nash. He can still sing. Neil Young did a couple of his solo tunes and saved the day, but Stills & Crosby were cringe worthy.

Regret not seeing:

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
The Beatles. (Too young to have seen them)

I've seen pretty much everyone I've wanted to since the early '70's

Had a chance to attend the Playboy Jazz Festival in (IIRC) 1989 and just couldn't get away from work commitments; that was the year Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble played. Later that season came the fatal helicopter crash.

I _did_ get to the next 10 or 11 straight, tho, and saw some amazing performers. I think everybody brings their A-Game to the Hollywood Bowl although Miles, being Miles, brought it about an hour late...

It was Phil Collins at his peak,..I wish I would have attended, but didn't,..cause I was sick at the day.
Also Mick Jagger (bassist was Doug Wimbish and Joe Satriani was the guitarist)... same reason.. :(
TOTO (The Seventh One era, at their top of their game), I never saw them live ... a bit sad that I didn't attended their concert at the stadium, because it was the same night in my town as B.B. King in Hard Rock Cafe...I went to B.B. King instead, much smaller venue although full packed house...no regret :D

Missed the 1989 Alpine Valley run for the Grateful Dead. Granted I was only a 1 year old but I still can't believe I missed it. I also feel like an idiot having missed Zappa plays Zappa this past fall and winter (i guess I get a break for the winter show due to it snowing like hell).

My first concert was with my mom to go see Monica and 98 degrees. I was a big Monica fan as a young boy. Idk why. Good memory, maybe I should bring it up to mama, it being mothers day weekend.

From Monica to Zappa. How the times have changed.

Show of Shame
Creed. This was in '98. My best friend LOVED them, had never been to a rock concert, and they were big at the time so I thought "Why not?". I did get to see Sevendust though. Strangely enough they opened for Ser Stapp and the Boys.

And that's tied with...
Most of the bands at Lollapolooza '03 in Indianapolis. None of the bands I wanted to see (QotSA, The Distillers, and Jane's) played like they wanted to be there except Audioslave and Incubus. Plus, Dave Navarro's guitar didn't work at all during Stop and halfway through the second song. He was po'd for their entire set and it showed. Boo.

A couple of years ago I got freebie tickets to "The Gang Of Outlaws Tour". 13th row orchestra!
Obviously ZZ Top was great (played last,longest), Gretchen Wilson actually very entertaining, just not my fav genre.
As a whole, the show was good.
But .....
Three Doors Down .... SMH ..... terrible.
Looked like a bunch of over-caffeinated 12 year olds. 3 hits with filler music. Stopped all sound and killed the lights at the end of ever song.
And a 2 finger ( one on each hand ) quarter note bassist ...........

Back in 2008 I went to see Gov't Mule with the guitar player in the band I was in. I had no interest in seeing them but the guitar player's friend wanted to and was moving away so we went kind of as a going away thing. It was at this horrible place called the Meridian here in Houston. The first thing I thought of when I got in the place was whether the fire exits actually opened because it looked like one of those places that you read about catching fire and everyone inside burning up.

So we're about 10 feet from the stage when this opening band who none of us had ever heard of comes on. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. She and her band just blew us away! This was the only time I was blown away by a band who I had no previous expectations of. I've seen them 3 times since and they've added members and Grace has glammed up a lot but they still always put on a great show. But still never like that day with Grace in bare feet, jeans, and a sweatshirt in that dive of a place.

Worst show I ever saw was the Grateful Dead at Giant's Stadium in 1989. I saw them two other times and they were good but that day they were horrible. At one point they almost stopped in the middle of a song they were so off.

I saw The Fabulous Thunderbirds open for Rush in 1986. Who's great idea was that pairing? With our daughter growing up in the last decade I was 'fortunate' to see Britney Spears, Destiny's Child (when there were four of them), and Christina Aguilera. You know how it is.

worst show EVER was Micheal Franti in Santa Cruz (circa 2000). half the crowd was on Ecstacy as well as MF we suspected. the entire club wreaked like a funky locker room while Franti skipped around the stage repeating, "sing something beautiful",... "sing a beautiful song", etc.
i looked at my gf and smerked, "you brought me to this BS"!!! she laughed and said, "you're right,.. this does suck"! lol,.. we bailed quickly.

best show ever was standing 10ft from Jaco in a small club in San Francisco before anyone knew who he was. there were about 100 bass players w/gf's along with afew regulars. he played with a drummer and one guitarist and it was more than enough to blow my mind. :)

Standing two feet from the stage at a Mutemath concert. (My personal favorite band) absolutely mind blowing.

Worst:
Goo Goo Dolls/Matchbox Twenty. The tickets were free. I just didn't enjoy Goo Goo Dolls.

Never been to a show I didn't like, even the ones I didn't like, lol. I just love concerts of any kind. I go to shows all the time, so many great ones it's really tough for me to single one out. Some faves from this year so far are Heart, Brian Wilson/Jeff Beck and Billy Joel. Saw Jane's Addiction play Nothing's Shocking in Vegas three weeks ago with Fishbone playing after. Freakin' orgasmic.
