Why DID the Beatles Get so Famous?

I think we should start a poll to see if this is the worst poll ever. None of the answers seem to give the Beatles any credit.
I never really considered myself a big Beatles fan but you have to give credit where it is due.
They were a two genius band with a fresh sound that people loved because it was good. I can't think of a Beatles song that i want to skip when listening to an album. Besides the Beatles, I can only really say that about Pink Floyd, Willie Nelson and early Pearl Jam.
The Beatles are so famous mostly because they are at least among the best bands ever if not the best. If they don't suit your taste that doesn't mean they weren't great.

The poll was meant to be humorous. Sorry it fell so flat for you, but the OP makes a valid point. The only real answer to the poll was the first one, which was the point of the thread. The rest were relevant jokes, such as the hair, (which people commonly remarked upon back then,) the tight trousers, (a reference to the Harrison-blessed project "The Rutles,") two light pokes at the Beatle-haters on the board, and the requisite carrots answer.

OK, what makes them the best if not the best? The songs. OK, what is so special about the songs? Well, that depends on the circumstances of the time because The Beatles went through phases along with the rest of the world. And, they weren't the only famous or good musicians. The Wrecking Crew and The Funk Brothers played on a ton of hit songs yet they were not nearly as famous as the singers they recorded behind, neither were the song writers writing for those singers. So, clearly, The Beatles' fame has something to do with being the name/face on the songs they wrote.
And Paul McCartny's bass playing, of course.

I remember my mom calling me down to the TV when they came on Ed Sullivan. I was 10 at the time and had heard about them and was very excited when I watched them.

So they were "family friendly" (unlike Slayer, or James Brown, or Jefferson Airplane)? In addition to eating their carrots, tight pants, etc.
Funny. I was 7 and remember being very disappointed that the Beatles weren't beetles.
It really just comes down to the songwriting. They were monstrous songwriters, once they got going, and particularly when Dylan turned them on to grass (Help! album), which at the time was mostly mexican sativa, not the couch-lock munchie inducing weed that is more prevalent today.

The love of American music in Britain. I don't think they would have gotten famous if they were from the US.
I guess that I could be like many other people my age when I say that I wasn't interested in music very much before, but that did me in. Me and millions of other guys were destined to play music after seeing them.
OK. I'll date myself. For me, my 'Beatle Moment' came as 9~10 year old, sitting in the movie theater and hearing Ticket To Ride for the first time. I had never heard anything like it before, and it spawned the seeds of my curiosity/obsession with music.

When I first saw A Hard Days Night it was paired with Frankie and Annette in Beach Blanket Bingo. I remember thinking even at that time, and I was only 12, that was the past, this is the future.
