Well I fell in love with the music man tone ever since the first time I heard it, so when comparing stingrays and sterlings I went for the sterling because the neck profile is just the most comfortable for me.
Right time, right place, right axe.

First read about Sei basses over 10 years ago. Just the look of them was just WOW !! Then I played one and said one day I will get one (a bit like the Wayne's World "it will be mine" scene !!).
So here I am 10 years later and my bass is about 3 months from completion.

I traded a six string johnson bass straight across for my mim precision bass, and its the best sounding and playing bass I own. best choice i ever made
I'am into passive tone basses.
I look for beefy necks, and a bass the plays great.
Give me a good Percision, Jazz, Gibson EB-1, EB0L, Hofner, ect.
I'll try to be brief...
When I was 17, I used to walk past a music store in Columbus Ga. named Rucker's music, it was there I tried out a Warwick Thumb bass in 1985. I felt a connection that bordered on a religious moment. I asked the owner "how much?"
She said "$3000.00"..
I was too poor to think about it..
I left the store praying and hoping I would get enough money to get one..
In 1995 I visited London on the invite of Paul McCartney's brother "You're a sh*t hot player, come to Liverpool and I'll help you out.."), and visited a music store in London. Hanging on the wall was a 1988 Warwick Thumb 6 string. I was drawn to it and played it for an hour..
It was used and cost more than I had. (Still broke and looking for work..) I left and went back to Spain.
A year later, I moved to Britain and got married. I happened to go into the store and the bass was still there!
I was on tour and my wife asked me what I wanted.
I told her, and when I came off the road during Christmas, I walked up to the bedroom, and she and her mother had bought me the bass..
Unfortunately, I was playing DB on the road and because I didn't warm up properly (In Germany during December..COLD!), I developed RSI
in my plucking hand. All I could do was put the Warwick on and stare at the mirror for 6 months. Luckily, I managed to play again and I now have a fretless Thumb 6 as well....

I like vintage basses and guitars, the worn-in feel, tone, and looks, and passive pick ups. I had a '66 sunburst Jazz for a while but just didn't dig the J bass tone after a while so I found a '73 Precision that has a jazz-like neck ( I believe in that era P-basses had narrower necks stock ) and I fell in love with it. My Ashdown is the perfect amp for it and it's amazing the variety of tones I can get out of it ( I use DR Sunbeams for strings and replaced the worn-out stock pick ups with SD Antiquities ). It's a classic creamy white with black pic-guard and it's a little beat up. I love it.

A Dean edge 4 string, I knew nothing about basses when I got it, but it had almost all the specs I'd want in the future: avtive dual humbuckers, 4 knobs.
I just wish it was mohogany with clear gloss and flamed maple facings, but thats for later.

Lakland 55-01
Had a Bongo, although I sold it because I'm getting married this summer
and I didn't need $1000 in an instrument. (my decision, not hers. She loved that bass more than I did!) Anyways I looked at what I didn't like about the Bongo (floppy B string, sketchy tuners, narrow string spacing), and found the perfect bass to remedy those problems. The lakland has everything I love, and nothing I don't, plus it has a maple board which is something I've always wanted. The preamp and pickups are not up to par with the Bongo's, but a 55-02 would have cost me just as much as the Bongo, so I had to give somewhere.

working in a bass shop that specialized in european basses, i got to play tons of european handmade basses and fell in love with mørch. i stumbled across one used and immediately sold 2 basses to buy it. the tone of these basses is second to none.
I got my Ibanez GSR200FM because my teacher had a GSR something or other. He let me play once or twice and really enjoyed the neck shape and the tone. I went to the store and they had a GSR200FM there and I had just enough cash. So you can figure the rest out.
My Kubicki? I spotted it for sale on Bassworld.co.uk. I didn't expect to be able to meet the price being asked for it, but since the thread didn't state a price I emailed the seller asking him what he wanted for it. When he said £700 I was stunned! I managed to talk him down to £600 and just over a year later, it's still my #1 bass!
Being lefty lowered my choices allot for a beginner bass. It was an ibanez or a used MIM fender jazz, so I chose the jazz ^^. Seems like a good choice so far.
