Why do certain people feel the need to post?

Actually, not using the "ignore list" option, is a little bit of "self-preservation" - at least of the cyber fashion...
I've never used the ignore feature, but I assume if somebody is posting about me I won't see it if I utilize "ignore"? Well, I really would rather know what was said about me, I am not a big fan of ignorance.

I've never used the ignore feature either. I was just pointing out the stupidity of that statement, since I always assumed the "ignore" thing was for people who get worked up way too easily by things complete strangers say in an internet forum. And I think posting a whole thread dedicated to venting about that is a pretty good sign the OP is one of those people. Could be wrong, though.

Here's my theory (all is, of course, IMO):
Humans have an inherent inner need to feel like they belong to something......whether it be a group, a club, or just social interaction. When someone posts, they feel like they are "one of the gang." This is why some dudes go out and buy a bunch of aftermarket crap for their car.....they seek acceptance from others, as if to say "hey, now that I have really cool rims on my car, I'm cool....please like me more." Humans like to feel as if they "belong" or feel "accepted by" others, even if they don't know what they are talking about when they post.
Personally, I welcome anyone who posts on TB, regardless of whether their opinion matches mine or is 180 degrees out of sync with mine. It's all good. Life is short (trust me on that...I just lost my 21 year old daughter in a car crash a week ago). If someone posts, they are reaching out to be part of the TB community. I say welcome them!!
Yo young guys, mid size guys and old guys; share what you know. Some self appointed grammar Nazi, or technical Nazi will surely FLAME you (harshly correct you{as they perceive it}). Post as if no one was listening. Share the joy of music. All the Flamers can BMB. All the knowledge you have accumulated will benefit you.
So why not chip in & correct the BS? A single post solely about detesting pseudo-knowitalls serves no function whatsoever, except to confuse the n00b still further, as now, every post becomes suspect.
That action, plus this thread, comes across badly, tbh... IMO.
See BS. Challenge BS with hard facts. Hopefully BS poster gets the message & the BS stops.

Btw, if I showed everything that I know, then it would become blatantly obvious to everyone just how stupid I really am. It seems that the older I get, the more I realize how much I don't know. When I was 18, I knew everything. Now that I'm 54, it's quite the opposite.
I completely agree with correcting incorrect information. That benefits all of us. However, I suggest that we always try to do it in a way that doesn't cause "loss of face" for the poster who gave out the incorrect info.
listen, you can have tons of experience and really know your **** and still get bitched at by people on here. i will refer people to my many threads espousing the good points of strict alternation, and despite the fact that many people were posting what great results they had by sticking with it, i'd still get bitched at by rakers who took offense. "waaaaaahhh! i rake and i'm good at it and you're wrong! waaaaaaahhhh!" "waaaaahhhh! jaco used to rake! waaaaaahhhh!" jaco also used to drink to excess and live on the street. i don't see anyone recommending that. hell, you can even get people arguing against learning how to read music on here!

If someone posts something wrong, then just be the mature adult, and post your argument, complete with your own examples, as you perceive it to be. No need to have a bad attitude about it, it's a forum; where would you draw the line on who is qualified to post about anything? What would your qualifications be on who is to be trusted as the "final" informative source? The problem is not people posting mis-information, the problem is with those who know better not replying in a dignified, mature, and informative manner that clears it up for everyone and settled debate on the topic..
G.I. Is like OT. I have started threads & read ones started by others asking a question. The threads turn into a major argument and nothing gets accomplished, the people just trying to learn something get turned off and confused. Who do I believe? Screw it, I'll figure it out myself.......
Not only the poster but also others reading the post. I think that most semi-intelligent readers will know not to believe just any post. And it's true: for every bit of misinformation posted there will be five criticisms of that post, so I wouldn't worry about things going uncontested. I've learned as much on this forum from reading people's criticisms and corrections as I have from legitimate and accurate original postings. I'd think that anyone who spends a fair amount of time on this forum has a decent sense of who knows what they're talking about and who doesn't. TB has a pretty tight community of watchdogs...
