Why do certain people feel the need to post?

You really can't do much about people posting stupid comments or useless/incorrect information. I think reading a thread with uninformative posts is like watching people drive and talk on their cell phones at the same time. Just sit back, watch the stupidity, and wait for the crash.

I forget who said it and I'm paraphrasing, but you probably appreciated the line about, "when I was 18 my father knew nothing. When I was 28 I was amazed how much he had learned in 10 years."
Seriously, I look at information on here and pretty much any other website as searching for TABS or transcriptions. Some are close, most are wrong; you have to go in with the expectation to take what's there and then make a decision on what's correct or not. You learn a bit along the way, and if it's something REALLY important, then you have to find a trusted reliable source for the info.
It's not like there's a test people have to take before they're allowed to post their opinion.

Because as everyone knows, there is exactly one perfect bass technique, one perfect bass tone, only experts who have played for years upon years know what it is, and only they are qualified to talk about it.
I think you're putting too much stock behind what people say. There are lots of variations in bass technique, pedagogy, and opinions on bass playing. If you don't like it, you can either ignore it or politely disagree, the key word being politely. Being a jerk is never a good solution.
Saying something blatantly offensive and then trying to cover with "I'm sorry, but..." is about as immature as anybody you claim to have a problem with, if not worse.

What's really weird about this thread is that Ed Fuqua is actually posting on the BG side! 
to the OP; it's just the nature of this forum. There is a lot of give and take on learning theory from scratch. I'd recommend taking classes from a good teacher.
People are trying to be helpful and if they get something wrong, it's called out pretty quickly - believe me!
