Why do I hate ebony finger boards?

No sweat. OP did not at all say he hated ebony FB's. Just he has an aversion to them and aversion does not automatically mean hatred. I have an aversion to purple cars and mustard in oatmeal...not a thought of hatred goes thru my mind. Not everything has to be held up to hate. Over-used word. Now it is commonly used for disagreement as well.
People need to have Georgia on their mind, not auto-default to the word "hate".

You might not have noticed the title of this thread where the OP begins by asking "Why do I hate ebony fingerboards." So I think he clearly did say he hates ebony fingerboards even if he didn't repeat it in the text of his post.

However, I'll agree with you that the recent tendency of far too many people to automatically characterize any criticism as a form of 'hate' is unfortunate. It's largely a newgen thing, possibly brought on by school officials who quickly realized they could stifle discussions of uncomfortable topics by accusing someone of "hating" something when they were simply voicing disagreement.

Example A:

John: We really need to start seriously addressing some of our social problems. We're nowhere near as moral a society as we like to think we are. I don't understand why people are so unwilling to even discuss it.

Mary: Maybe it's because nobody else here hates this country the way you do.

——
Example B:

Forum member 1: I don't care for Fender PBs. To me they're kinda one dimensional when it comes to tone.

Forum member 2: What are you talking about? The PB is the greatest bass ever made. That's why you'll hear one on 9 out of 10 songs ever recorded.

Forum member 1: Maybe so. It's an ok tone. But it just sounds generic to my ears.

Forum member 2: Haters gonna hate bro!

Forum member 3: Here we go again! Yet another hate on Fender thread.

Id like to weigh in on the broccoli issue.
A 148 gram serving has 4.2 grams of protein and 220% of your daily vitamin C. The same amount of swiss chard has less than 74% of your daily vitamin C.

Think about that.

Broccoli is awesome. My toddler eats it with as much gusto as French fries. The real monster is brussel sprouts. Everyone who eats brussel sprouts should have to wear specialized flair so I know who you are.

Personally I really like ebony boards. I have a Frankensquier (JV serial!) With a custom fretless neck someone added, unlined ebony board. It's really pretty and feels great beneath the fingertips.

Too much hate all around these days.

Why don't you instead consider posting a thread about a fingerboard wood that you like? Just a thought.

The word "hate" has been given way too much power these days. And its new-found power has been abused by people with agendas (and, no, not just political ones).

"I hate coffee" 35 years ago simply meant that I didn't like the taste of coffee. Today, to a good percentage of the population, "I hate coffee" means that I hate, and wish death and destruction upon, all coffee drinkers and their friends and family and everything they stand for. Nothing would please me more than to persecute coffee drinkers. In fact, I sit with other coffee haters in smoke-filled "back rooms" plotting the destruction of all things coffee and everyone who is pro coffee.

OP just used the word "hate" to describe his dislike for ebony. Don't give that mkre power than it has. ;)

By the way, coffee popped into my brain because I love it and am in desperate need of roughly a gallon of it as we speak. If this hotel has bad coffee, there may be violence. :wideyed:

We have to sneak the broccoli into smoothies.

I intended the comment more in the sense of how it is inappropriate and pointless to complain about food at the table (without intent of patronizing). Didn't intend ANY political aspect.

All I was suggesting was to be positive rather than negative. So, I dig coffee; rather than I hate tea (I don't).
