I guess mine's not really called a Kickback (though the style allows the same tilted positioning). It's a Hartke Hydrive 115c. SamsonTech
Doesn't provide for optional expansion cab, and it certainly sounds like 250w, plus the speaker's rated at 300w so pretty sure it's the full 250.
Playing it kicked back last night worked quite well. But also the lead guitarist begged off for some work thing he had to do, so we were significantly quieter anyway. Rhythm guitarist isn't quite so plagued with the Crank It Up syndrome. That and having the amp pointed up really made a difference! We also had a fairly honest discussion during a break about volume. It is primarily the lead guitarist that's the real problem. Worst thing is he's damn good. The drummer is going to have him re-position his amp AND install a baffle to keep it from hitting us directly as it has been (it's drummer's house where we practice).
In fact, the drummer has a tougher time than I do as he's just about dead-on at the speaker. He was complaining that his right ear ends up ringing after a practice too, so the discussion made it clear I'm not the only one who has a problem with it. Sometimes it just takes someone pointing it out. Being the 'new kid' I'd not said anything for weeks but I'm hopeful now that things are going to change.
I think if we just get that amp moved to face a different direction so it's not pointed straight at the rest of us it will improve for everyone. I didn't get custom earplugs BTW, just the rather cheap foam ones. I tried them for a bit, but till the lead guy comes back next week I won't know for sure. I didn't leave em in since we really were much quieter last night.
Playing out for the first time in a couple weeks - just a freebie neighborhood thing. There I'll be playing through the PA with my amp as just a monitor. Really looking forward to that! And it will let us see where we have issues playing live rather than just weekly practice. Good plan.
